718 Boxster S service

Hi,

I drive a 2021 718 Boxster S that has done 18k miles and is under OPC warranty until July 2026, its due for a minor service in March and I have been told that it needs drive belt change along with the usual oil, filter, brake fluid as recommended by Porsche. I have been quoted £1500 for all of it. I am not sure, hence asking the experts here. My understanding was that drive belt change is @ 60k miles or 6 years.

Hi Kumar,

As you say, I think that the 718 requires a drive-belt change at 60k miles/6-years, although I reckon that it should have been inspected at the 40k miles/4-year service.

I would have thought that the servicing schedule is laid-out in your Driver’s Manual?

At 4 years it’s due a belt inspection however it’s due spark plugs and cabin air filters hence the cost most probably.

It's due for 5 year service, 2 years since the last one in 2024 when they changed the spark plugs and filters.

Maybe it just needs a drive belt inspection as it's less than 20k miles?

Your car only needs servicing every 2-years, so it looks as though you’re out of step if the previous one in 2024 was a major service after 3-years, but is now due a minor service.

It could just be that the dealer is covering themselves with the drive-belt change since the next service will be due in 2028 when the car is 7-years old?

I agree Jeff. Something isn’t right there.

If you’ve a 2021 car the first service should have been 2023 then 2025 and then 2027 and so on. Spark plug change should have been on the second service so last year. Servicing works on mileage (20k) or by time (2yearly) which ever comes first.

Did you buy it new?

Thanks guys, I got is from OPC reading approved used.

1st service was done in 2022 and as it was coming to 2 years the dealer did a major service when I bought the car in 2024.
You are right, it's out of sync

So is it worth getting the drive belt changed a year earlier @ 5 years or go back in a year @ 2027 for it? I may change the car by then.

Strictly speaking it’s not necessary to change the belt until next year, and at just 18k miles it’s unlikely that it will be worn, but if you’re planning to keep the car and extend the warranty it will need to be changed.

Your decision I’m afraid.

You ‘should’ get 10% off but only on parts as far as I know.

Some OPCs are prepared to discount the total cost to club members.
I got 10% off from Wolverhampton and Portsmouth (and Bournemouth?) is offering 25%, and Swindon 26% until the end of March. The latter was advertised in PP.
