Hi Alan,

There's nothing organised at all. I've had zero interest from requests for what Register members wanted, despite asking fo nearly a year now, and I've not heard a thing from the organisers as to what they either want me to lay on or what they have arranged. I have to say I'm struggling to get enthusiastic about this one. []

It was suggested that the registers would have a gazebo and an area for a few cars. Everyone else would be parked in one main area. If that's what happens then I'll be at the gazebo on the Sunday. Not sure where I'll be on the Saturday as we did Silverstone in May, and I'm worried about people stuck at Cirencester with nothing much to do. I guess the 944 regulars, and any new faces who join us, will have a great weekend as always, but it's a bit of a missed opportunity IMO.

Only 2 weeks to go now, my 'Who's going' post has 5 replies, pretty poor considering this is the busiest section of the club forum. I am heading down from Glasgow and will be joining up with other Region 1 members, though I'm looking forward to meeting up with other 944 Members also.
Hope to see you there Paul,

Alan.

Must say I struggled to think of things to suggest to "do" especially with no idea of numbers attending - Endeavouring to come up with all sorts of ambitious/different things only to be faced with a low turnout would be pretty deflating. I am looking forward to the event and what will hopefully be a goodly gathering of 944's, I will be at both Silverstone and RAC all being well. I am however starting to get the feeling that the Club events are stuck in something of a rut both in terms of fresh locations/ideas and attendees.

partly to blame to, suggest a mobile rolling road for the Sunday to add some noise and motion and didn't get very far with organising, not that there was anybody else who showed interest.
Tony

To be honest I couldn't really think of anything other than the obvious get as many 944's together. Had a look back and forth on other areas of forum to see what other registers were planning, but no ideas at all so couldn't steal them. I have only read brief details of what's happening at Cirencester which include; Region Gazebos and 3 display cars
Register Gazibos and display (not sure how many)
50 Years Display; Car or Cars, from each Year
Concours
Auto-test
Saturday Gala Dinner
Saturday Evening BBQ.

Is this correct and have I missed anything.

Alan.

I do think it would be good if those of us who are going first to Silverstone and thence onwards to the RAC did so in a convoy...

This is a little worrying for our 50th year - that should be a lot of experience to build on seems lots has been lost!

Mel and I found a Dyno Dynamics mobile dyno when we did a recce of the MG event at Silverstone last year. I passed the details on to Narrinda and asked her to book them. Nin then went and got pregnant so I I ask Carol to look into it. In all the subsequent changes I am assuming there will be no Dyno. I certainly haven't been asked to make note of it on the layout drawings.

However, what about the 944 team picking up the mantle of 80's specialist - see the post regarding the Club video. If the 944 chaps were to don their 80's gear with their 80's cameras and other 80's parafenalia it could be quite a laugh.

Yep, could have been fun. Sadly I can't see one guy turning up in legwarmers with his old Ultravox tape playing feeling anything other than a bit self-conscious. We could have planned this event at the last worker's conference, I can't in all honesty suggest that any one member entering in to the spirit this late in the day would be a good idea. [&o]

Well after such an enthusiastic reception, if anyone did want to revisit happier times for 15 minutes in order to assist in the Club video please do no hesitate to contact me on john.s@2ta.co.uk and be assured you anonymity will be maintained should you so desire.

Sorry John, I'm not trying to ruin the video by being so unenthusiastic. Merely wondering why ideas for the 50th are being bounced around so late in the day; we've known for 50 years it would be happening. [&:]

I hope someone does arrive in fancy dress, just trying to get across that it wasn't suggested before so most people, including non-forum-users, won't be joining in.

Alan.
Alan, you could demonstrate your driving skill by either competing as an individual or entering as a team of three 944's in the Autotest.
This will be held at the RAC on all three days with the main competition being on the Sunday, with trophies for Saturday and Sundays runs.
It will be open to all on the day you are there just bring yourself your 944 and your membership card.
Have a look at the blurb on page 20 of the August Porsche Post.
Is a 944 easier to drive than a 911 or a Boxster? are the drivers more skilled? lets find out.

......Sorry John, I'm not trying to ruin the video by being so unenthusiastic. Merely wondering why ideas for the 50th are being bounced around so late in the day..........

No worries Paul I'm just taking my lead from Top Gear. Us media types are all wow, and zoom and here and now and whoosh. The ideas fly, the artistic juices flow, it's a roller coaster.......and I was trying to think of things to spice up the DVD which wouldn't necessarily cost anything. Yes I know we could have thought of them 6 months ago but I am given to wonder if the response would have been any different.

'Tis better to try, and fail, than never to try at all. (Punctuation is very important in that sentence [:D])

Good news, all. We've finally been told that we will have Register parking after all. In fact, I have to arrange the cars in a perfect line-up and greet you all individually. [&:]

Can people let me know, reply here is fine, whether you are planning to be at the RAC on Saturday? Silverstone is obviously where all the action is that day, but if some people are going to be at Cirencester I'll make sure someone is around. [:)]

I'd certainly try to get to Silverstone if you can as it looks like being a cracking day. While the action at the Porsche Driving Experience Centre will obviously have parallels to the Modern's Day of last year, and Post Classic day of earlier this year, there is the added element of Stowe Circuit for this event.

While I know no more than what I have been asked to put on the layout drawing there is certainly noted Stowe Circuit passenger rides and Stowe Circuit Parade laps so that could be really cool. No idea of what the passenger rides will be in. There were also suggestions previously of Porsche running some cars of note at speed in demonstration runs. Again, I have no idea if this will come to fruition but would be a sod to miss if it is going down.

So, if you can, I would try get to Silverstone for the Saturday. I think it will be worth your effort.

Robin, I'm up for that, in fact my RO has already suggested we enter.

Paul, I will be staying at RAC on Friday night, but am going to Silverstone on Saturday, I will be at RAC on Sunday if you want my car for display complete with over 500 miles worth of dead flies stuck to it.

Regards Alan.
