50th Ann spec

I've put in an order for the 50th Anniv car and would like to ask some opinion on three areas:
1. How do you rate Agate interior to black?
2. Is it worth swapping out the sport design non-folding mirrors for the std ones? Do the mirrors protrude beyond the rear wheel arches?
3. Is the sunroof a worthwhile option.

Appreciate the views of anyone who has some experience on them.

New to the forum and upgrading from a Cayman S.

Not a fan of black interiors, I think the 'houndstooth' interior is the best thing about the 5oth model.

Also not keen on sunroofs on 911s, but the new glass sunroof on the 991s does look very good and the black look with lighter colours and the wider C4 body, gives the 991 a lot more wow factor.

Congratulations on ordering the Anniversary car, will be quite a change from the Cayman.

I find the black interior always works well with the 991, and I love the retro feel of the houndstooth interior shots on the promo material.

If you were unfortunate enough to knock a mirror, the folding ones give you a chance to come away unscathed, fixed ones are unforgiving. Not sure if they stick out beyond the wide body rear wings though.

Personally not a fan of the new sunroof, glass or otherwise, but not experienced this particular version in terms of buffeting which the 997 ones were prone to.

Let us know your final spec and build date when you get them confirmed.

I've chosen the Geyser Grey, Agate houndstooth interior so far. Still contemplating changing to the folding mirrors and also the sunroof. Thanks for the view on the sunroof in combination with the car colour.

The mirrors still leave me in a conundrum.

They are the same mirrors as the GT3, look fabulous and are well inside the rear wheel arches, I would keep them, though agree with pwebb on the knocking issue. Interior choice is in the eye of the beholder but mine has the two tone leather, agate/Pebble Grey and it really lifts the interior though it is a devil to keep clean[8D]. I also have the metal sunroof which is pleasant at legal speeds and has no undue buffeting, the tilt position is very useful for keeping the air fresh.

Dont choose the mirrors based on which are more accident proof (if that's your reason). An accident may never happen or may be a repairable scratch if it does. Its just like avoiding kerbing wheels. We dont choose smaller rims with taller sidewall tyres just in case - we just make sure we dont kerb them. Or parking away from other cars to avoid someone denting your door. Just make sure you dont clout the door mirrors. But some things are outside our control & you could change to the folding ones and get a bad knock that still needs repair. Not worth trying to counter what you can't predict or control if you prefer the Sport Design mirrors.

Was spending a happy afternoon in the rain at opc Bournemouth our new local opc when we are in poole.

The sales manager advised that while the 997 sunroof created huge and noisy buffeting over 50 mph that this is something porsche worked very hard to correct on the 991 and hence the new sunroof was not proving a problem.i have decided to go for one but not until I have driven one with a sunroof for some distance.

Dear All,

Thank you so much for the advice. I love the mirrors and am happy to know it does not extend beyond the rear wheel arches. I like the non metallic grey colour and will decide on the sunroof shortly. Driving the test C4S, I was surprised by the wind noise from the sunroof, though it did allow the glorious engine noise to be heard so much better.

Lining up a buyer for the Cayman S now and getting excited though its still months away.
