400 plus BHP

Rumour is, we have a dyno-proved 400-plus bhp turbo in the club!

I'm sure that there will be some big-headed posts to follow, but it looks as if someone has finally broken the barrier with full dyno proof!!

Makes my factory 183 bhp seem a little inadequate....

No, this is a new claim to the 400-plus club.

Do you have the official figures for John Daly's car? I would think that only fully verified figures will satisfy the cynics on this forum!!



 
Coil on plug sequential ignition works. This is on the standard head at the moment. Duff solenoid on the boost controller is leaking and prevented mapping. Much more to come yet ...

Hi Paul,

Yes I do, it recorded 421.9bhp at the ABG Motorsport Dyno in 02/2004. This is a Bosch dyno now owned and operated by Wayne Schofield.

It had a 2.8 long stroke engine, Koklen V turbocharger, 55# injectors and LR DPW. No air metering other than MAP.

I'm not saying it's definitely wrong and I'm not saying it's optimistic even if it is wrong, but it would only take a smidge over 5% error to put it under 400 and that's well within the margin of accuracy atmospherics can alter an uncorrected reading by.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
You know, something looked weird to me about that scan - like the black letters are "floating" on the page; just not right. So...[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I loaded it into Photoshop and zoomed in. It appears that all the letters - especially the black ones, but the lighter ones also to an extent, have a white pixel around the edge before the grey background starts, almost like they had been lifted from a pure white background. The background itself is a texture that has been repeated across the "page" so is uniform blocks or tiles - zoom in 800% and you can clearly see the straight edges where they join. Now both of thse things I'm sure you all agree are weird in a scan are they not?[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I had never doubted the "422" produced something close to that figure, but I'm struggling to think of a possible reason for the scan to look like it does other than it has been doctored or fabricated from scratch. Now note I am not saying that is definitely what happened - let's say I am asking why the scan looks so odd.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]John, do you still have the prinout that came from that dyno session with the car? If so can you comment on it or maybe scan it in high quality and post a link?[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
Okey doke - makes some sense. I have never doubted the "422" was the biggest numbers 944 in the UK and that the figure was indicative if not necessarily totally accurate.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I would still appreciate it if John could post an un-enhanced scan of the original though.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I have the dyno print out that Andrew gave me when I purchased the car in august of 2004. I'm not sure if it's the "original" or not but I'll scan it some stage later today for you.

Well done Rick, [:)] shame the 422 is unlikely to make the Weltmeister Dyno ( but anyway its not slow! ).

Well done Rick. At last the fruits of your labour are starting to be harvested. It sounds like there is more to come too if you have leakage and not full mapping yet.

Have you got a 400 cap yet or can you wait until the Dyno Day for a proper presentation [:D]
 
Hey Paul, what are your predictions/targets once your 3.2 monster is unleashed? There are a good 4 or 5 of you guys who are in the process of building these powerhouses. I can see a bit of league and some friendly competition building.
 
Yes it's a shame the 422 cant be there for the dyno day....would love to be a part of the fun!

I was talking with andrew recently and we discussed the "white car". He reckons that I've got at least another 50-70 bhp to come with some changes to the turbo, headers etc. The only reason the dyno peaked at 422bhp was due to the turbo running out of steam and couldn't produce more boost!

I just cant wait to get home in june to play with my car again[:D]
 
I don't know! I go away for no more than a couple of days and vast swathes of threads are deleted (which I can still read [;)]) and people sneak in 400+ bhp power figures - and to think I turned down a drive of WUF on Tuesday night in favour of going to Wales.[:(] Mind you those sheep do have lovely velvety ears (or yers). [8D]

Congratulations Rick! After all the money, grief, frustration, and damn nigh loosing your thumb you more than deserve the figures you are getting.

With enough boost you could probably get 600bhp+ ......................... but only briefly.
 
Someone has asked, is that something called "rear-wheel" bhp or "flywheel" bhp??

As the owner of a lowly Lux, with no interest in whose is biggest, I'm at a loss to care about the difference, but I did say I'd ask!
