As the descendant of the 924, some 944 owners may be interested in this.

These are the full details of the 924 Owners Club's 35th anniversary of the UK launch of the 924, celebrations with help from Porsche Cars Great Britain

This is a very specal event which I hope many will want to be part of :p

It is to be held on Sunday April 15th at Porsche Experience Centre on the edge of Silverstone circuit.

It will be a breakfast-club style meet, 9am - 12noon

Porsche are opening the premises especially for us, which we''ll have full use of.

Entry is by car pass only with a charge of £7.50 per car. The cost to open the centre is considerable and Porsche Cars GB have been very kind in helping us with this event.

Their restaurant will be open for refreshments.

Passenger rides around their tracks for a small fee.

Parade lap for 924s probably led by a 911 or Panamera

There is a F2 meeting on at the main circuit that weekend, there's a good roof viewing area in the Experience Centre for the track, but people could stay and watch more racing in the afternoon. The trackside is easily accessible from the venue without paying for entry.

We are in the process of obtaining press coverage of the event from one or more of the major titles.

This will be the biggest gathering of 924s in a very long time :D
I hope to see as many of you there as possible ! :eek:ccasion5:

Further details at www.porsche924.co.uk or email events@porsche924.co.uk [:D]

Oh, dont want to pee on 924 fireworks but its also the 30th Anniversary for the 944 this year, perhaps we could have a joint event if the 924 registry dont mind?

Cheers

Hmmm. Interesting.

Apparently for the 911 anniversary meeting in a couple of years time they are planning to have a parade lap of 911's, from all the different ages and models. And that's being led by a 944 S2.

EXACTLY! Give that man a biscuit!

It seems a genuine shame to me that a 911 or Panamera should be chosen to lead a 924 parade. The 924 always suffered from not being a 'proper Porsche', and having to have them led by a 911 seems to be making them subservient to a lesser model, albeit the one that has the halo effect (and that Porsche truly made their killing from.) If I was a 924 owner I'd be slightly insulted by this, and certainly refuse to take part in any such a parade.

The Panamera I can slightly more understand, but even that's not far off being rude. Surely it should be the other way 'round; the Panamera parade being led by a 924. Grand-daddy leads the latest breed out to play (seeing the Panamera as being an evolution of the 924 transaxle, front-engined stable design.)

I'm not the expert on the event but I would guess one of the Porsche Cars GB drivers will be using a Centres car to 'pace' us around the circuit. Yes it would be nice for a CGT to lead the precession but I don't have Derek Bells number saved in my phone book [:)]

I don't think it is anything to do with the Club or 924 Register, is it? 924.co.uk is different.

Sounds like a great idea Steven, I hope to be there [:)]

It would be great if the organisers could get Derek Bell along with his GTS

It would be even greater if Porsche GB shipped over the Le Mans 924 from the museum (can't see thatt happening though £££££ [:(] )

Looks like a fantasic event!

Quite a few years ago (probably nearly 10 years...) a friend and I were at Silverstone for a proper event but decided to go for a little wander round the perimiter. At the time Porsche silverstone wasn't there and the 'test track' was in a very poor state. It was completely open (well, to me a waist high fence is as good as open) so we had a wander round and I took a load of pics of the abandoned circuit. It would be really nice to have the opportunity to go round it now that it's back to its former glory!
