-30mm Suspension

Is the ""30 mm suspension option on a Carrera 2 the same as the standard suspension on a GT3 or is there a difference?
 
The ride height will be the same - the GT3 is 30mm lower than standard.

Whether it will ride exactly the same is not so clear, the GT3 has wider wheels, but more importantly I think the chassis may be stiffer.
 
I was looking at www.porsche.com site for the GT3 specs.
The GT3 has adjustable suspension (ride height, camber, castor, roll bars), whereas the C2 does not. This may not matter for road use.
Also the suspension mountings do not include any rubber. I can' t tell if this is the same as the C2, but I doubt it, since you get more noise in the GT3.
The 18" wheels come in several rim widths. The ones available for the C2 are narrower than those for the C4S, the Turbo and the GT3. You would need to do more than just specify 18" wheels.

Besides the enhanced engine performance, by raising the rev limit and modifying the internals, the gearbox and mounting points are stronger. In addition to this I believe the chassis may be more rigid (the 17K price difference has to be going somewhere).
Additionally the GT3 is lighter.
Also the GT3 has the side skirts, and front and rear spoilers to reduce lift (or even get some downforce).

I wouldn' t think the handling will be the same. Whether it is really that noticeable on the road is a different matter.
There is the additional matter of tyres. You cannot put slick or racing tyres on a C2 since you will generate enough lateral G round corners to cause oil starvation problems. I believe the GT3 is able to cope with this, so the oil distribution is better.

In summary, lowering a C2 will not give you a GT3. However, driving on the road (and not the track) there will be little in it, except the GT3 will accelerate to 100 about 1.5 secs faster.
 
Julian, I hope you are on first name terms with your dentist, go for the 30mm option & road driving = lost fillings & blurred vision !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Before I ordered my C2...I tried as many configurations as i could...The -30 mm with 18" wheels was very harsh on any British road that I drove on...I ended up going for sports chassis -10mm with 18" Carrera wheels...This was the best combination i could come up with,,,the ride can still be a little harsh mainly due to the 30 profile of the rear tyres...yes I have palyed around with the tyre pressures a little.
 
I mentioned on another post somewhere that I thought the 10mm was the best compromise for the road, although I concede that for a smooth track it could be harder.
To my tastes it is about perfect for the road, although it does crash a little over abrupt surface changes or potholes, but you don' t notice cats eyes at all.

As with most of these things, it depends what you primarily want to use it for.

There was an option for introduction in Q2 this year that gave a 20mm lowering option. I think this was intended the C4S and Turbo only though, although I don' t see why it should be.

Maybe the 997 will have the Cayenne' s variable height suspension, then you can jack it up and down with a flick of a switch as the mood takes you. (Means you can go 30mm lower most of the time and still get over speed bumps.)
