A suggestion! Anyone up for a day driving up north in Scotland on this day with an optional overnight stay somewhere? Names and suggested routes welcome please and we can then try to sort out a b&b.

It would be great to get a few interested in getting out and about with their 944 for a meet.

can't do it this year but I'd be great if a few of us got together in say 2014 for a weeks tour in Scotland, the only place in the UK that I haven't driven too, need to change that.

Pete

Sounds good. I'll check date and apply for permission and let you know. Only problem might be that I am at Chateau Impney the weekend before. Are we thinking West Coast? Anyone know of suitable B&B or cheap Hotels with adequate parking?

Alan.

just been to orkney, some nice roads along the way ;) glencoe is a fantastic place to drive through, epic scenery. id be up for a day out dunno if i could manage an overnighter.

this is the approximate route we took. covered most of orkney and too the ferry to hoy, not marked on the map;

the only bad road was the a9 south of inverness. north of inverness it was pretty good.

Looks like I could be ok, assuming I am back on the road by then!! St Mirren play Motherwell away on that day, so I suggest leaving from Fir Park around 4.45pm?

Cheers

Stuart

I will be going. I have asked a few other guys with 944s and there is quite a bit of interest. Skye looks like a good possibilty as well for the trip. Fantastic roads up there and a good curry house as well bizarrely.

I love Scottish roads, have always wanted to visit the Talisker distillery on Skye too, date rules this one out for me though, although would love to sometime in future...

Scam, We (Carlisle) Beat St Mirren 1-0 in a pre season last week, Middlesbrough tonight, cannot be ther as my car is still in (more) bits []

Skye sounds like a decent bet. I'll post over on tipec too. Oli has also provided me with a few ideas which I will post up tomorrow.

Do you have a meeting point for the Saturday? I would suggest Stirling Services would probably suit most. Then cut over through callander, Crianlarich, Fort William etc. Setting off early afternoon? Back for Tea on Sunday.

Alan.

Could meet at the garage if you want Alan is it is pretty central for everywhere. An earlier start would probably be better as well so we can stop on route.

Cheers Frenchy, a few of my mates were at the Carlisle game. Some trouble after the game I heard, obviously some ne'er do wells follow your team!

Meeting at Al's place is fine and also an early start is good. I would suggest meeting for breakfast about 8.30 - 9 ish, chance to check lights and levels and any minor last minute fettling before heading out. Hit the road for 10 or 11 and try and catch the best of the day.

I have had a look at hotels on Laterooms and most are Double rooms at around £150 per room. Staying at Fort William area is around £85. Anyone know of other accomodation that would suit.

Alan.

I've stayed in a couple of great b&bs around Fort William. Corrie Duff in Glen Nevis and Stronchreggan in Fort William. Cheap-ish and excellent breakfast. So, make Fort William overnight stop?

Fort william is a bit of a shitehole. I remember a petrol head owned hotel in the north of skye so will see if I can find the details. Will do a bit of checking tomorrow for rooms. List of people going so far are:
Alasdair Cowan
Steve Simkin
Alan Loc
Mick Brown
Alastair Lawson
Stuart Cameron

THis is the hotel I met the petrol head owner at, will see if I can get a discount
£95 for a twin room inc breakfast on the website so only £50 each for a night, not expensive at all. Beautiful view as well.
