240v cable into car whilst locked?

Hi All,

Here are two things that I could do with some help with:

1. I want to leave my car on trickle charge whilst I am away. Is there a way to get a 240v cable into the front compartment whilst the lid is closed and car locked?

2. My headlights are fogged. I've polished them on the outside, which has made some improvement, but suspect that some of the fogging is on the inside. Is it possible to get to the inside of the glass?

Hi Andrew,

I'm sure that you'll be able to get the cable between windscreen wiper panel and the bonnet. Although it may be slightly smaller diameter, the 12V cable from my CTEK conditioner passes through the gap with plenty of room to spare.

I doubt that you'll be able to access the interior of the headlights easily. If the fogging is just water vapour the application of some heat should clear them.

1. I find that the flex to my battery conditioner goes nicely between the sealing rubbers around the frunk/trunk lid. For convenience I run it in the vicinity of the top inside corner of the headight unit.
2. 996? Healights are not sealed units. I should park the car wuth the headlights facing the sunshine but it sounds like you need to establish whetheer you've fully polished them or whether you've still got some way to go.
 
if you get a ctec charger I have fixed mine to a girder above the bonnet I the garage extended the 12 volt cables and passed in the top part
of the bonnet with out trapping the cables works a treat for me .
 
Ref the charge cable:
I leave the boot open when using the trickle charge. I think that after a period of time the boot light times out and turns off?
I also think (but might be wrong) that the car even goes into shunt down mode after 3 days with a trickle charge on and the boot open.
 
Ref charge cable: The cigar lighter socket is always live, so if you get an adaptor for the charger you can plug it into the socket, and run the cable out the door. The rubber door seal prevents damage to the cable so you can shut the door and lock the car. The other advantage is you have a cable snaking out of the centre console so unlikely to drive off with it plugged in.

I fitted the unit fixed to the battery using the fused main cable with 'O-Ring' battery terminal connectors and ran the cable behind the rubber trim that follows the bonnet. It ends up inside the bonnet storage area.

It has a cap on the connector for when not in use.

Then when in storage you remove the safety cap and connect the unit. Plug in into the mains and then select the 12V option (already selected by default) and press the charge button.

It has an intelligent built-in microprocessor to keep the battery at maximum health.

It has been spot-on for me.
