So 8 weeks in now and loving it but just reliased that there isn't and headlight washers is this normal, when did they stop installing

Just purchased some PPF protectiofor the headlights and they appear to have cut outs for washers in the front corners, is it possible to get without the cut outs.

I seem to get some condensation which comes and goes, is this normal

thanks regards

Hi Kev

Headlight washers are only legally required in Europe and the UK for high-intensity discharge (HID/Xenon) bulbs that exceed 2,000 lumens. This is a regulation that does not apply to most lower-lumen LED units because they are designed to stay just under this threshold, removing the legal requirement. It suits car manufacturers to omit the headlight washers because they are complex, expensive to manufacture, and prone to breaking or causing issues.

Another reason LED units don’t have headlight washers is that, unlike HID/Xenon (or halogen) bulbs, LEDs remain cool. This means they cannot melt snow or ice off the headlight lens, rendering water-based washers ineffective in cold conditions.

from launch the Macan came with Xenon headlights as standard and with LED units as an option. Cars with the Xenon lights came with the mandated headlight washers. However, with the 2019 facelift LED headlights became standard negating the requirement for washers. Therefore, it would be worth investigating whether there is PPE headlight protection available specifically for a post 2019 model year Macan

LED headlights have vented housings to allow for pressure equalisation, heat dissipation, and the removal of moisture, which is especially important because LED units do not emit enough heat to evaporate moisture themselves. Therefore, Light condensation (a light misting) in LED headlights is generally considered normal, especially in cold or humid weather. It is normal for this to appear on the lens edge, but large droplets or pooling water would tend to indicate a leak in the unit.

I trust the above is helpful and that you continue to enjoy driving your Macan

cheers,
Geoff

Very informative post Geoff, thank you.
Personally, I would avoid PPF on headlights since the lenses are coated to prevent yellowing/ageing and this may become adversely affected by the film.

Clive
