Proposed PCGB R3 EWOTY 2017
For the 2017 WOTY we are looking to do a EWOTY to the Loire Valley in central France. Why the Loire Valley? The Loire Valley is home to arguably the greatest car race in the world, Le Mans 24hr and also the Porsche legend was born at the circuit. Our proposed destination is a town called La Charte Sur Le Loir which is located around 45 minutes south of the Le Mans 24hr track. In the heart of this superb picturesque town is the Hotel de France where we are proposing to stay. The Hotel de France is pivotal to the history Le Mans 24hr story and Porsche. Up until the late 1960’s the hotel is where the top teams stopped and worked on the cars. The garages for Porsche, Aston Martin and Ford etc used to be behind the hotel and you would regularly see the race cars in the square and or in front of the hotel. Anybody who was anybody in Le Mans 24hr motorsport has stayed at the hotel, even the late great Steve McQueen, Stirling Moss, Carol Shelby, and Jackie Kennedy Onassis to name but a few. The hotel is a pilgrimage for Porsche and 24hr enthusiast and a must visit for any lover of Porsche and Le Mans. Check out the hotel on http://www.lhoteldefrance.fr/
The town of La Chartre sur le Loir is ideally located in the heart of the valley with most of the great Chateaux within a 45 minute drive. The great city of Tours is only 45 minutes south with Le Mans 45 mins north. Around this area are superb driving roads with very little traffic and beautiful countryside, vineyards and Chateaux and September sees temperatures of between 24 and 28 degrees.
Mark & Wendy Duffy (R3 club members) lived in the area for eight years and their knowledge of the area is second to none. Le Hotel de France was their second home!
We have spoken to the Hotel de France and they currently have 25 rooms free for the week commencing the 18th of September 2017. We would be looking to depart the North East on the 18th of September 2017 and arrive in La Chartre on the afternoon of 19th.
