2013 981 Boxster not starting

Hi all, seen some previous posts from members wanting to help with problems. Help need please!

I have a 981 2013 boxster only 25K miles, after not using it for a a few weeks in started fine (new battery couple of years ago) went out for a drive, stopped en route then restarted and the blower fan came on full and wouldn't turn off even after car switched off etc. In the end I had to disconnect the battery to stop it. I have since found out its pretty common problem, the blower regulator (BEHR G4532002) will expect need replacing. In the meantime I have disconnected the relevant fuse (orange 40A No 3 position in passenger footwell) and blower HVAC stopped. Where is best place to get the replacement regulator please? I can't even get the regulator out, is it usually hard to remove?

More importantly the car will not start! All electrics come on so looks fine, I unlock, turn the key, foot on brake etc and the car sort of tries to start then will not. It just makes a sound as if it wants to start but doesn't. I have in the meantime used a CTEK on the battery so it is full of juice. Car won't obviously move so any help be gladly received. is there a check list I could work through, I am a bit technically minded not hugely.

Cheers

Hi Simon.
Sorry to hear of your problems.
Why not email Steve Winter of Jaz Porsche he is our technical assistant for the Boxster register.
Regards Cliff

Hi Simon.
No problem happy to help Steve might take a day or so to reply as he runs a busy Porsche Garage but very knowledgeable a friend of ours we are lucky to have him on the Boxster technical team.
All the best with your car.
Cliff

Contacting Steve will be a good idea but if the car struggles to start it sounds as though either your battery doesn’t have enough charge to turn-over the engine or there’s a problem with the starter motor or its circuit.

The CTEK is a battery conditioner, not a charger, and even if it’s showing that the battery is charging/charged there could still be a problem with it. Poor starter motor performance could just be a bad earthing point, so you could check that the cables are secure and that the contact points are good.

If you have access to some suitable diagnostics that would help identify the source of your problem, assuming you’ve investigated the above possible causes.

Good luck!

Jeff

Hi Jeff and Cliff, thanks for the replies. So I got it started today! Yay!

Using an OBD reader I could see a code for the control module so cleared that. Put a booster on the battery and thankfully it fired into life. Taken it to my local porsche specialist for a full health check including the battery (only 2 years old)

I think you're correct there could be some earthing problems as you mention so will have that checked plus check battery power to crank the engine etc

Thanks for the advice

Simon
