2000 RPM Rattle

Evening All, Just want to pick your brains. I have developed an annoying rattle at 2000 rpm on the way up and down. I have just had the front Cat changed as this was in pieces and was initially thought to be the culprit, however today the rattle has reappeared today. It appears to be coming from underneath the car around half way down.

I realize this is quiet a vague issue to address over the forum, just wondered if anybody has experienced a similar issue as the rattle is DRIVING ME MAD !!!!!

It is probably a heat-shield making contact with the exhaust. I had a similar metallic rattle for a while at 3,000 rpm whilst in a slight left hand turn. Get it up on the ramp and make sure your exhaust has good clearance to all of the heat shields.

Mine turned out to be the chrome finisher on the tail pipe. Now properly secured using some self tappers... no rattle.

I'm not sure about the S2 but the Turbo has a number of little heat shields around the engine:

1. Long thin one that runs along the block and covers the oil level sender
2. 2 x small aluminium ones that protect the engine mounts and bolt to the front cross member
3. 2 x steel ones either end of the steering shaft and protect the 2 x UJ's#
4. 2 x around the starter motor
5. Several on the inlet side of the engine under the inlet manifold including a support bracket for the IM

Worth checking all of the above as they can all rattle and be very annoying !
