2.7 front dampers

Are they the same as 'normal' ones?

All the ones on 'the porsche shop' say not for 2.7.

Is OPC my only option?

Ta.

I put S2/Turbo M030 Konis on mine when i had it, the eccentric camber bolts didn't line up properly but I got the alignment done by hand with no drama.

The confusion is usually caused by the reliance on American market model lists - the Merkins didnt have a 2.7l car, so its usually either not mentioned, or incorrectly excluded.

If you're putting "standard" dampers on there, OPC might be your cheapest option. The fronts for my S2 were cheapest from Porsche Reading; they were cheaper in a Porsche box than buying the same direct from Sachs. A position that was only helped by applying the PCGB discount.

Hi Dave, I fitted new struts to mine last year, £90 + vat each from Design 911. Try phoning Euro Car Parts also.
OPC were £240 + vat I think, although also worth checking.
They are made by Sachs.

Hth, Alan.

When I was checking for dampers on my S2, going for OPC items seemed reasonable in comparison to Porscheshop! Design911 seemed to be quite reasonable on price IIRC.

I assume the dampers are gone on yours Dave. You were only changing a wheel bearing!

Just remember that Design911 prices shown are not including VAT unless you click the button.

There's play in both front damper rods, so it'd make a camber check wrong.

The original sachs are oil based i think so they are very soggy from new ! I thought mine had gone but they hadn't

The S2 struts are Porsche only now at £236+ each. The 1986-89 ones are available OEM at about £100+ each

Seriously? I MOT for a living, and they are right on the limit of failing. If its a design characteristic they can't fail. I personally think they want swapping.

:)

Yea. This is for an '89 2.7. Replaced them because the front end felt 'soggy' when bounced compared to the turbo version. They had no leaks. I went for what ECP had as the correct part number to ensure correct fitment with the bolt holes etc. Cant remeber the numbers 100722 & 100721 i think. It says on the sachs website.
The sachs that came off were original oil and replaced 3/4 years ago (have a receipt from previous owner)
When i bought the new sachs they were oil too and had the same resistance as the old ones ![]

The oil of course do this compared to gas. I did a bit of research into it because they didn't seem right.

I put Boge turbo on the rear.

Recently had MOT and had no mention at all of any sub standardness re shocks.

One thing to bear in mind is that 'OE' quality from the factors is not always that, at least in my experience.

On a previous car I fitted genuine dampers from the dealer. Yes they were expensive but the front of that car is still riding very well and at the correct height. The rear I decided to try 'OE spec' Bilstein B4s. They (and the springs) did not stay as 'fresh' as the genuine items. It was a similar story for the front springs before I changed the lot to genuine (the springs went soft and the front went so wallowy and low that speed bumps generally resulted in me having a tailback (unless I decided to scrape the front end off every bump!).
