1990 S2 Fan Relay

More often than not my radiator fan won't turn off when the engine does, even if you leave it to cool down. My mechanic has diagnosed this as the fan relay. Until now I have simply been unplugging it every time I park her up, which isn't a major inconvenience, but I'd like to fix it eventually.

The serial no. of my faulty relay is 944-615-104-02 but it has 944T written on it in marker pen (presume it's from a Turbo). The parts I've seen on ebay and pelicanparts say they fit my car but they're are identified as 944-615-104-03 - very close I know so I'd presume they're OK?

The cheapest is $130 plus shipping. Does anybody know I can find one for less?

Test a good known relay first and also try removing the connector off the radiator temp sensor first.

If you remove the connector and the fan stops then the temp sensor is goosed, more likely than the relay in my experience and a lot cheaper to replace to boot!

Yep mine was the temp sensor/sender too. Quite scary how much the relay would have been - I think around £120 from OPC. The Temp sender was about £20.

Mine was the relay, it was damaged so we knew it was faulty. I got a used one from Alasdair.

It's so rare a failure that I'd say a used one from a good source is a pretty safe bet. The sender is far more likely to be the cause, so make sure you check that first. I don't know where you are, but I'm sure someone would happily let you try their good one.
