1990 C4 Spoiler controller query.

Just wondering generally if spoiler control box part number 911.618.212.00 is alright to use instead of 911.618.112.00.? Comparing the internal components they are a lot different and I’m wondering if the 212 was just used in later cars than mine. Had problems recently and thought that I had fixed things, but my spoiler is not now raising itself at speed or via the manual switch. I got a neighbour, who is an electronics expert, to check it out and he had to replace a relay which welded itself up.

My mistake, sorry. The alternative controller is part number 964.618.212.X. Does this part fit straight on no problems. By the way I am probably going to send my controller to Tore Bergvill in Norway. He has a test rig that checks them out and he repairs them as required and makes any improvements that have proved to be necessary. Will post up here when received back.

As long as yours isnt a 89 car, 964.618.212.X is the correct part. The X now means its exchange from Porsche, no new units available

There's a big difference between the pre 91 and the later ones. The early ones are analogue driven and the later ones are digital so they're not interchangeable.

There are many articles on Rennlist so I recommend you read them and familiarise yourself with them. Yours which is analogue has 2 control boxes under the right hand seat.

The motor is reversible and the drive direction is determined by which way the voltage is applied.

Just spotted yours is a 1990 car! Sorry, ignore all my posts!

As Dekker rightly says, up to 1990 is a more basic relay, part number is 96461814200, this is NLA

Update. I sent the controller off to Tore Bergvill in Norway on 29th of May and got it back on 15th of June, so it is a very quick service. He tested the whole thing on a test rig and had to put a new (closed) up relay on as well as changing some capacitors and transistors. Take a look at www.bergvillfx.com to see what services he offers on ECUs etc.etc. also led lights and a lot of other services in connection with Porsche cars. Had to wait to test the controller on my car as I had damaged the tip of the drive cable by not following the correct procedure, and also the simple locking mechanism on the spoiler motor that holds on to the drive cable, because I wasn’t aware of a locking ring which needed to be extracted before pulling the cable out! Spotted some used motors with spoiler mechanisms from the USA on Ebay via a supplier called 1autobahn1 should anyone need these. They were reasonably priced at around £226 plus postage which at £56 is exhorbitant to say the least!
