Surprising lack of interest about the ad.
I guess it's the wrong time of year or people don't want to buy a car that needs a bit of work in the current climate.
I think the wife is resigned to the fact that it may be with us for a little longer

Yeah I though that might be the case. I guess honesty doesn't pay when it comes to selling a car. Maybe I will just fill them with something or other and give it a coat of paint.
Sorry,
Don't agree the outer sills will fix, best to be honest with your ad, i would not be best pleased trudging to London to see a car not as described, infact i would want travelling costs reimbursed, i would have asked about sill condition before travelling.
Wrong time of year to sell in my opinion, can you afford to get the sills done ?
Do it and advertise for a bit more £££
In February !!

I agree with the pair of you. Which is why I have been completely honest about everything in the advert.
Afraid I can't spend any money on it as every penny I have now is going towards baby related things.
Keeping it is fine by me, but I will just need to get hold of a baby compatible car at some point

Perfectly baby compatible. With two youngsters we were amazed what the S2 would swallow. Keep it!!
i.e. Buggy, travelling cot, bags, coats, two children in the back, wine racked in the rear footwells...
Absolutely. Peter used to love the back seats of the 944 and would sit in the back in preference to the front, when given the choice, because the back seat was just his size.
Granted this was before obligatory child seats. He was able to use the back seat without a booster seat in the 944 at a relatively early age.
On the down side, with twins, you are going to struggle to get two rear facing baby seats in the back early on and, once in, the babies will be almost inaccessible so you are probably doing the right thing.

Off topic, out of interest, and not having a go as you clearly took it on the chin, but how did you find out only after you bought it that it had rust sill(s)? I guess I am trying to give the seller the benefit of the doubt and am hoping they weren't noticeably rusty when you bought it and the seller might not have know.

Yes that's the problem.
There is no way twins are going to fit in the back. Especially that I am 6'2" and need to have the drivers seat pushed all the way back!
If I had a garage and lived out of London I would keep it and get it under Classic Car Insurance but finding the £800 per year to insure this on top of another car is just too much. Yep That's how expensive it is to insure for a near 40 year old with a 20+ year license and never a single point or conviction in London
I will have to see how it goes. Those bastards at we buy any car have offered me 2K for it, but I just can't do it
James ...when buying a 23 years old car you have to expect a fair amount of rust and their related probs
I only inspect the car for 5 mins max( I know stupid), but I bought the car as a small project( as I am bored), so its did not bother me one bits , anyway the rusted sills are not that bad as i may have caught it in time
the car cost me £3k and I anticipate spend about the same on its to get it to the condition I am used to .
I had the car in hartech for their gold service afew weeks back that when I found out !

I was in exactly the same position as you Bighead.
I knew the sills were fairly rusty when I purchased it and spent £3k as I though the rest of the car was in good condition - which I was proved right about.
I would have done the sills by now if all my money had not gone on child related things. Bought the car in November and found out wife was pregnant in March!

Hi There - shame you have to sell. Just wondering if you have rung around for additional quotes on insurance. There are other London based 944 S2 owners here who may have tips on insurance cover if parked on the street....possibly save you a few notes.
lookingfora944........... lucky for me my only daughter has just finnish Uni this summer so no other expence apart from modding/maintaining my 3 cars
the sills are not that expensive to replace (all depends where you take the car ).
personally if I was you , just keep it till the the kids are too big for the back seat as there is tons of space for whatever you need to carry around for the kids in the boot.
I ran a 944 turbo in the early 90s when my daugther was around two years old and never had any probs regarding space .
I just "hate" getting a car ready in great condition and then sell it for someone else benefits !!
I have a Subaru Impreza P1 in the tuners waiting for a forged 2.35 conversion .... which I;ve had since 2002 and will never sell as I've spent the best part of £40k on the car !!.
just my 2p worth
.
ps ...but having said the above there is no substitute for having yr first twins, so good luck whichever you decide and congratulations to you and yr wife

I think if it were a second car, it would be ok to park on the street with classic car cover. But as it is my only car & it is on the street, they don't want to know. Just got my new insurance quote through and it remains the same as last year even though I now have one years no claims :$
As a London-based S2 owner, who only owns a 944 and keeps it on the street, my best advice is to try the screenscrapers. Agencies take their cut and hence work out more expensive, and you can't get classic cover.ORIGINAL: andrew_churcher

Tesco were the cheapest for me last time I renewed.

Classicline Insurance are the only insurers I know who who insure me with the S2 as an only car and on the street in London N8. I pay about £425 for unlimited mileage, agreed value £6000+, fully comp, only car, classic policy, ungaraged on street in London N8, PCGB track days included. Good value IMO.
