1986 930 HID headlamp kit any fitting tips

Yes - don't do it. The reflectors are not designed for HID bulbs and you will dazzle and annoy oncoming drivers. Consider a set of headlamps relays or a Classic Retrofit fuse panel instead to get maximum voltage to the lights and then a pair of the latest Osram or Philips H4 bulbs.

Thanks for the advice,do I need the relay set up if I'm going for the LED bulbs and what voltage is usable

The idea behind the relays is that with the current (sorry, bad pun!) wiring all current to the lights goes through the high/low beam stalk on the steering wheel. The extra distance and multiple contacts and connections results in a voltage drop (especially as our cars age) and may eventually fry the contacts in your column switch. The relays are installed very near to the fuse panel and are supplied with a short cable straight from the battery - hence less voltage drop and the column switch is only switching the current to energise the relay rather than the entire bulb draw. I suspect that if you measure voltage at the bulb under load before and after installing the relays you would see at least half a volt more and probably over a volt more.

LED bulbs present a similar problem to HIDs - the physical light source is not the same size and shape as the filament of an H4 bulb and light goes where it was never meant to.

My advice would be to install the relays and the best Osram or Philips bulbs you can find - even conventional halogen bulb technology has come on some distance since our cars were built.

Thanks for your help and advice,if I go for the conventional halogen and the relays is there any advantage in going for a more powerful
bulb.
