185/70VR15

For 185/70 it depends if you want a period tread and V rated. If so there are not a huge amount of choices

Pirelli Cinturato CN36 as you have noted.
Blockley now produce a 185/70 VR15 period look radial tire.
Michelin XWX are available in the correct size and V rating.

The Pirelli CN36 is the genuine original equipment made by Pirelli

The Michelin XWX is also a genuine period tyre made by Michelin that i also believe was OE on early Porsche

Blockley is a new budget tyre

Pirelli also make a P6000 which is good because they also make the 215/60R15 that some cars fit on the rear. It is like the Blockley a modern tyre so not so suited to old cars. but, being made by Pirelli, it is an excellent tyre.

then Avon make the CR6ZZ which is also great.

All the tyres are on here 911 tyres

I was hoping to here from someone that had tried the CN36 on a 911. even better i would love some pictures of a 911 fiting the Cinturato CN36 i have tried them on a TR6 and the are great

I had new CN36s on my 911 2.4S around 5 years ago. You supplied them, so you will know if they were different to the newly manufactured ones, but I thought they were marvelous. I drive fairly hard and found the great in all conditions, even heavy rain and track laps at Classic Le Mans

I have Michelin XWX in 185 x 70 x15 size on correct deep six rims. These look 'period correct' on the car (if you are interested in such things). Experience with them is in the "early days" category ( 750 miles) but grip is very good even in the wet and they appear very progressive and provide a compliant ride. Compared with the 60 section Cinturato (on 7" rims) that were on the car when I purchased it the XWX are in a different league.

I used to run Pirelli P6000 on my 2.4S but since they started to supply F1 with tyres their prices seem to have significantly increased so I looked around and found Avon ZV5 in the 195/65VR15 size fitted well and looked OK. I have been impressed with their roadholding and wet weather grip and their price is good as well.

I would expect the 60 profile rear tyres to give a more harsh ride, but that set up was a bit more of a racing set up. I would expect these cars to be nicer to drive on the road on 185/70VR15 front and rear. specially with CN36 or XWX.

I think the P6000 is a great tyre but too modern for these cars. i would expect the ride to be a bit harsher than an period tyre like the XWX or CN36 these period tyres will be more progressive and give more pleasant handling. the cars will obviously look better but they will be nicer to drive too. It is not just the look.

195/65R15 is just the wrong size and carcase design. they will have much squarer shoulders like the P6000. however fitting a 195/65R15 does have the advantage of being a more comon modern size, so you will be able to buy a cheapo brand.

There might be cheaper options out there than the Pirelli CN36 or the XWX but generally speaking when a tyre is made by a top manufacturer to these high specifications then this is what they cost. especially if they are made in small batches like these sizes. the cheaper tyres out there will be made by lesser manufacturers.
