17' Boxster S Wheels Spacers?

All the cool kids have black wheels these days!

I'll stick a picture on your facebook to how it looks now Jim. Unrecognisable from that slightly tatty car you went to see last year, told you I'd bring it back to life!

Having been inspired by this thread I started looking at wheel and tyre sets.

I've got Pilot Sport Cups on at the moment which aren't exactly a year-round tyre and they don't make them in 16" anymore so I costed up a replacement set of tyres - circa ÂŁ500.

Looked at lots of sets on the bay but all silly money, knackered tyres or inappropriate widths and then found a set of 996 Carrera 2 wheels and tyres on Gumtree. 8j front and 8.5j rear, matching Bridgestone tyres at 6-7mm all round and finished in gloss black too, up at ÂŁ350 Ono, guy had them on his Boxster now replaced with Cayman wheels.

Went up to take a look this morning, had a cup of tea and a drool over his 1977 930 turbo with ÂŁ25k on the clock!

Wheels and tyres all in good nick, not powdercoated black but (a very good admittedly) DIY sprayjob so we dealt at ÂŁ290.

Happy Days!!!

Love black gloss wheels, just had my race wheels redone super shineeee, the gold centres make them I think[:)]

It's all in a bag in the garage, 3 tins of Halfords spray paint (primer, gloss black, lacquer)

Just a gentle rub down to key the surface first and away you go. Halfords sell a paste type product you can use to fill any gouges if you need to as well.

I've done wheels this way myself before now.

When I find the right set Im having mine powder coated white! The ideal would be magnesium telephone dials, but as thats unlikely itll probably have to be a 986/996 style.

Weren't they the ones used on the Turbo cup cars? Must be pretty rare and expensive. I would also like a set of mag wheels, got my eyes out for a set of Dymag wheels, equally not common though.

These are 17' and Porsche fitment. Was a white set on an EMC 968 at the Autosport International this month. Me like!

My friend George has a set of Dymags on his Supercharged Ariel Atom.

They're very light but he's had issues with them that haven't been easy/cheap to resolve.

The Dymags that were on the EMC car are super delicate,I had a set that came with my race car of same type,I had them dipped and crack tested,FULL of cracks and unusable..one of the wheels was ok and I donated it to someone, the type shown in the picture above look much more solid but I do think they need a lot of checking also..

They weighed nothing, without a tyre literally nothing, but the cracks were all over the wheel at spoke rim junctures....scary...I nearly didn't bother getting them tested....phew...I do like a bounce off a kerb aswell [&:]

Rays should be better.

Yes the 9" mag wheels were fitted to Cup cars and theyre very seldom for sale, almost certainly beyond a sensible budget and in all likelihood, if theyre anything like my mag framed mountain bike, well past their best before date too!

I do love black wheels on our cars [8D]

I HATE [] the silver 16" Boxster wheels mine is currently wearing with its winter tyres, they will definitely be swapped off for Rutland (or painted beforehand if I get a chance)

I really don't like all black wheels, I don't think they look good at all. They are passable with a silver rim I suppose, and OK with a deep dish

ok I suppose these were alright...

These aren't staying - I think the standard wheels will look nicer

I have to agree with Ed. All blach wheel and black tyres really dont do anything for me. Black with a silver rim I do like and you may be able ot ake black wheel look a little beter with a contracting thick strip on the rim.
