17' Boxster S Wheels Spacers?

Copperman05

I have just had some new rubber fitted to 17 boxster s wheels for track days, initially I though I could get away without spacers but now it seems the fronts will not fit without. Can anyone tell me what size are required to clear the hub? Will 7mm be enough?

Cheers
Edd

All depends on the offset. I have 10mm spacer for the 'crab claw' wheels but my turbo twists only need 5mm.

Which wheels exactly? There's lots of different types. BTW I'm on the lookout for a good set of 986 Boxster S wheels...

My front wheels just foul the cover for the hub nut - only by a fraction. It just means the centres don't sit completely flush. Rears are fine

I don't think you want to go over 7mm (need to think about length of studs as well) I tried some spacers on my turbo with 16" Clubsports but wasn't happy with the amount of thread left, so took them off

These... Picked a set up for ÂŁ96 on fleabay, were a bit corroded so got them refurbed by Lepsons.

They are 55mm offset, which is why I thought they would fit as the S2 D90 fronts are 52mm offset. Rtec have fitted the wheels but used the 18mm spacers I had on the rear as they said the fronts would not fit. The 18mm are too large as the tyres are rubbing the arches.

hmmm - that's just what I'm after - I've actually asked PH to look me out a set. (My new car has some 18" GT3 wheels that will be coming off)

Funny isn't it, because you see plenty of 944's with the 16" Boxster rims [:'(]. See this thread also for 17's http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=742068

As you know, I'm using a set of four 987 Boxster rears, 8J ET40. I also have 2 of the Cayman 8J ET 40 17" rears, still waiting to find another 2 to make a set.

The 987 Boxster 17" sets I see coming up don't seem to go for much, but the 6.5" fronts are maybe a bit narrower than you'd like.
The 987 Boxster S wheels might fit also - these look a good deal http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/04-Porsch...wheels-and-Continental-N2-tyres-/110996677391

No Simon, decided that the 17 size gave more options, especially in trackday rubber. I'm not a huge fan of the above wheels but they were cheap. Now have Yoko AD08's on for trackday hoons.

Although having to buy more spacers means changing between the 993 road wheels and track wheels will be more of a pain.

So if I'm right 7mm spacers will allow the wheels to clear the hub nut, its not an offset issue but a difference in hubs of boxster v 944. I will order some from Jasmine.

They certainly can be had cheap enough, the ones I bought were not listed as 17' on ebay just "boxster s wheels' so it appears they didnt get many bids as a result, often pays to search for 'porsche wheels' and be less specific, might get a bargain that way.

Edd, I tried these wheels off my Boxster on my 944 at the weekend and used a 7mm spacer on the front. It fits but pushes centre cap out a little. Alasdair says if you take the hub cover off it will give more clearance and sit ok, will probably still need spacer though.

Pics of wheels on car?

These do indeed look very nice. Just trying to work out if they will fit my otherwise-unmodified '89 2.7 (standard: 15"x6 front, x7 rear, ET 52).
Using the magic offset calculator, the fronts would have 16mm less clearance on the inside and stick out 10mm more on the outside
The rears would have 15mm less clearance on the inside and be out 23mm more on the outside.
I guess the outside clearance is more important as spacers will improve the inner clearance.
The measurements look OK when the car is parked, but how can you (simply!) check what happens when the suspension is fully compressed?

You car has 7" wheels all round. If it has a 6"x15" front then someone has fitted a 924S wheel to the car.

With regards to their size and offset, those wheels will fit and theyll look right. The front wheel is within 3mm of the ideal offset and the rears will easily fit the car/arch (the cars arent sensitive to rear offset).

Some 996/986 wheels need small spacers for hub/caliper clearance on Brembo braked cars, Id expect them to fit your car without an issue.

Tyres are 225/45/17 fronts and 245/40/17 rear.

I'm not really used to the look yet as they seem big for the car, I guess I'm just used to 16' wheels. Ride is very similar to the 16's on S02's, perhaps a tad harder on bigger bumps but its pretty minimal, surprising as I believe the AD08's have pretty hard side walls, but then so do S02's. Not had the chance to test the tyres yet due to current conditions but they seem to work very well even in this cold weather. I have ordered 7mm spacers from Jasmine, I'm assuming the dust covers will need to come off to as there doesnt seem much room even with the 18mm spacers on.
