Security ideas welcomed - what do you all use?

Hi,

Newbie to club and newbie to owning a Porsche. I have just purchased my 991.2 Turbo S and very happy so far with it :)
I keep all the car keys in a faraday box within the house and contemplating another form of security for protecting my new motor from being stolen. The car has comfort access so I dont need to insert my key into then dash - this doesn't fill me with much confidence for starters!

The car is parked on my driveway with no gates so thinking about all forms of security, ranging from steering wheel locks (cheaper and mobile) to manual/electric bollard (intellipost) in the ground to protect all the cars (battery and manual).

Any suggestions welcome, many thanks.

I would go with some big bright motion activated spotlights on the drive, and not to be a scaremonger - a decent re-enforced front door - if someone wants that car - then they will happily break into the house to get your keys to the car and to any other device you have added, and portable steering locks etc will be trivial

End of the day, it's "just" a car, try your best, pay your insurance and remember it isn't worth getting hurt over.

Thanks Malarcy. Car theft in my area (Windsor) seems to be off the driveway with the replay technique and fortunately they arent breaking in from what I understand. I am still trying to work out if comfort access adds some security (unlikely) or actually makes it easier to steal. My F-Type R was on the drive before with no issues but this gets more attention by passing walkers etc.

Look at a Ghost immobiliser
Thanks Greenman986S. I was looking at the ghost immobiliser last night and seems quite a cool idea. i didn’t spend that long looking but some of the reviews pointed to being a little temperamental. Do you have one or know someone who has one? Pandora alarm also popped up.

i think you are on the right lines, two bollards won’t help me at a petrol station or if the car is parked up away from home.

Comfort access is far more susceptible to a relay attack where they fake the signal from your fob
That’s what I thought, anything that makes it easier is typically less secure.….thus my worry. It’s a bit annoying that Porsche firstly don’t really tell you this or protect it in a better way.

i read that the key goes to sleep so it can’t be relayed - wasn’t sure if it was a 992 thing or not.
thanks

If you're not happy at having comfort access if you look in the manual it shows you how to remove the "comfort" key, then you NEED your remote/fob key to unlock your car and you need to put the key in the ignition to start your car.

That takes away the worry about the "comfort" entry anyway

Thanks JMR - I have removed it for the moment until I sort some kind of immobiliser e.g. Ghost, Pandora etc
