Warranty

I have a 5 year old 992.1 which I bought 2 years ago when the car was 3 years old and 8k miles on the clock. It now has 15k miles covered and it is time to decide if I want to take out an extended warranty. The cost for 3 years is £3,330.00 and I would appreciate feedback on if it is good value and worth paying. I have read that turbos on the 992.1 are a potential problem, but then when the warranty says it doesn’t cover fair ware I wonder if that could even with a turbo replacement give enough wriggle room for the warranty not to be able to be used. Your views would be much appreciated.

Unless the rates have changed there is no pro rata saving in 3 years or 2. My son had a new turbo on his 2018 991.2 on warranty with no issues. IMHO it is a no brainer as these cars are complex and Porsche tax is only going one way. I have had more than my premium back on my Macan and Spyder.

My 992 GTS is currently having new injectors fitted at a cost of over £9,000. It is covered by a third party warranty and luckily the supplying dealership (not OPC) is covering any costs not covered by the warranty company. I intend to put a Porsche approved warranty on it as soon as possible for complete piece of mind. As other have said, it is a no brainer.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a 3 warranty. Firstly because I prefer the money in my account rather than funding an insurance company and secondly who knows what the future holds. You may not even have that car in 3 years time.

Having said that, the price looks good value when compared with commensurate high performance vehicle manufacturers that can charge £4-£6k pa. When you consider a replacement PDK transmission will cost up to £20k - extended warranty seems a good deal!

Clive

I have just taken the one year warranty option for my wifes Macan GTS.

The prices they quoted for that were:-

1 year- £1020.00
2 years- £1830.00
3 years- £2620.00

Roadside assistance costs are:-

1 year- £232.00
2 years- £392.00
3 years- £535.00

As Clive mentioned, its hard to say if we will definitely have the car in year 2 or 3, so I thought the 1 year plus Assistance the best option.

Thank you all. You have helped me make the right decision. I will be taking out the warranty and if it can go with the car when sold I’d probably go for the 3 years.

Only if you sell to a private buyer. It's lost if you sell into the trade.
Regards,

Clive

Maybe I’m wrong but don’t you get a refund on any outstanding [full years?] warranty if it’s purchased/part exchanged through the Porsche dealer network?

It could be Jeff, but I believe it would need to made a specific part of the bargain.

Clive

From my understanding you can get a pro-rata refund on the warranty when you trade in at an OPC
Not sure that happened to me last time out. I requested a refund after the deal was struck and was told it was all part of the p/x arrangement - no mention made at the time. Nowadays I would treat it as a specific item in negotiations.

I still believe the warranty is lost when dealing with other traders.

Regards,

Clive

If you trade outside the official Porsche network, the warranty & Porsche Assist is void, however as long as there has not been any claims on the policies, you can claim a refund via an OPC for the remaining periods. Apparently, it can take upto 4-6 weeks from claim before the refund money is paid
