6-Year Service

Hi,

My 718 Cayman S is coming up for a 6-year service.

I'm having trouble finding the service schedule: can anyone confirm what is required for this service, including any extra items due at the 6-year point? Also, the total cost for the service plus any extras?

Thank you.

You should find the schedule in your Guarantee and Maintenance booklet. Hopefully someone else will be along to answer your second question, but I’m sure that you’ll find servicing prices vary considerably from one dealer to another and the best thing to do is phone around.

Thanks for your reply, Jeff. Unfortunately this information is not shown in the booklet which simply directs one to Porsche.com. I cannot find the info on that site either. I have now found some info on some independant Porsche specialists who will no doubt be less costly than your friendly neighbourhood OPC!

Yes, that’s the problem with the newer cars … everything’s online.🙄 I’ve got a wad of useful booklets for my “Classic” 987.2 CS!

I’m sure that you’ll get a much better price [and better service?] from a local reputable Porsche Independent than you will from the Porsche dealer network whose labour rates probably will be twice that of an Indy.

Indeed: my local OPC charges out at some £250/hour, compared to a local independant at less than £100/hour!

Same here, and a local Indy gives a 10% discount on labour to PCGB members too.

I would think that the 6-year service will just be a Minor/Intermediate service with an oil and filter and brake fluid change, etc., but the turbo engines may need a plug change dependent upon mileage. I’m sure that your Indy will be able to advise you what’s required and maybe they have a menu system on their website with indicative pricing for your 718.🤔

Indeed they do: adds up to £1058. Don't know about the discount, will have to ask...

Basically it’s just change the engine oil, the oil and particle filters and air intake pre-filter and the brake fluid. The rest is just checks, many of which will have to be done for an MOT anyway.

Jeff

Yep. 6yrs is the belts and air filter.

It's not as simple as major/minor with the later Porsches. Plugs, belts and air filters are at 4 or 6 year intervals.

unless you plan to keep the Porsche warranty, which is of debateable value given the many exclusions these day, you might be better off with an indy .

Filters really only need doing if you have done a lot of miles and they are clogged. If you have only done say 2k miles since they were last done, it seems very unevironmental to change them

The 718 has 3 air filters. 2 for the cabin and 1 (or 2 if you have a 4.0) engine filter. At the 6 year point the engine air filters are changed as well as the cabin filters.

To interpret the documemt, everything on the 2 year service is done at every service, the additional columns, 4 and 6 year for example, are additional work done at those particular time point so, you'll need the 2 year service jobs plus the additional work done at the 6 year point.
