I'm looking at replacing the gas struts on the Bonnet/Boot of my 2004 - 986 S.
Looked at OPC but seem very expensive. Anyone know what brand Porsche use?
Also interested to hear from any one who has replaced them what brand did you use.

I’ve no idea who is the original supplier John, but Design911 has options at half the price, although your guess is as good as mine as to their quality.

Here’s an even cheaper option too which could be worth a punt:

Originals are generally STABILUS and over the years I've replaced many for ourselves, friends and neighbours over numerous Boxsters, Caymans and 911s using different brands and they have all been good for over 10 years.

Recently fitted MAGNETI MARELLI brand to Boxster front hood and got them from Autodoc as part of a larger parts order.

Recommend download your Boxsters parts catalog and get the Porsche part number and then search web, including eBay, by part number. Also check the part number comparison sites to see if they are used on other cars as then they tend to be available far cheaper (e.g coil packs are used on Vauxhalls and cheaper when searched with Vauxhall part number).

Look beyond Design911 and try local Porsche parts suppliers such as Type911 especially if you can collect in person.

Hope this helps
