PCCM upgrade

I had my pccm+ fitted to my 997 turbo by Porsche Cambridge and they did a super job of fitting it and explaining its functions. I don't seem to experience the volume problems that others have, plus I’m very happy that it integrates with the sports chrono.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 997.2 with PCM 3, and Car Play would be good.

Has anyone tried this unit from Design 911 (https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod...---Panamera---Macan---Boxster---Cayman---911/)

Adds CarPlay to PCM 3 and keeps the car looking original. I don't know if the install is reversible, be good if it was as I still have Porsche warranty.
Jumping on this old threat so apologies if its been answered elsewhere.

@Berin did you have wi-fi adaptor offered by Design 911 fitted? If so what were your thoughts as when I spoke to Design 911 they said they'd had positive feedback from those who have fitted it? At £350 it is cheaper than an alternate head unit and preserves the look and feel of the original PCM3.0.

I ask as I had PCCM+ in my old 987.1 which was great (no sound issues as reported by others) and now I've changed the Boxster to a 997.2 C4S, I'm used to the 'luxury' of car play, maps etc.

I have been pursuing my local OPC about availability of PCCM+ for my 987.2. Apparently PCCM+ is currently only available on Gen 1 of 987/997 models and there is no info on when it will be available.

I didn't - my car still has warranty so I decided to live with the current PCM. I connected an iPod for music and a Brodit phone mount so I can use maps

Thanks for this. I'm sure PCCM+ for 997.2's and 991's isn't far away but who knows. What I am certain of is that it will be offered just after I've had the module fitted - so I'm taking one for the team!!:eek:

Let us know how it goes! I haven’t seen it myself, but Pete at GP Classics near me (top class re trimming, paint correction and ceramic, if anyone is interested) has had a couple of 997.2’s in with a CarPlay module fitted by John Klees in Reading, keeps the OEM head unit and with some widgetary enables it for CarPlay, and it’s switchable. Apparently it works very well and was something like £600 fitted.

I don’t know if it’s Bluetooth or connects via USB, though.

My good friends at Strasse Leeds are fitting this on 24th so I’ll post an update & review here so everyone has a reference point.

I realise this thread has been quiet for a long time but here's hoping to resurrect it. I'm planning what is likely to be a nostalgic and last road trip to the alps in my near 19 year old 997.1 next month. It would be good if it were possible to somehow link my android S25 to the original pcm and take advantage of goggle maps and listen to my Amazon playlists. The ideal solution would not involve any modifications to the car because I'm keen to preserve it in the as manufactured state. Thanks for any information

I installed a Mr12Volt upgrade a month ago and couldn’t be happier. CarPlay works flawless and the audio coming from the iPhone, even over Bluetooth, is better than anything I ever heard from the other PCM inputs, even playing DVD-Audio disks. Only negatives are 1) the screen itself is low res so don’t expect an impossible transformation - I don’t have an issue with it 2) Mr12Volts own menu screen is ugly but you rarely see it 3) shoehorning the box and cable connectors into the car is hard work. These pale into insignificance when you realise you can now say “hey siri play jimi Hendrix electric ladyland” without having to lift a a finger - and the now playing screen with album art is a real treat. It goes without saying that proper navigation with camera warnings is a relief to have.

Hi Roger, thanks for the info. I'll check it out and see if getting someone to fit it is an option, just checking though that there are no irreversible modifications required to the car?

BTW speed camera warning devices are illegal in some countries. I remember reading on the forum many years ago about a member that was forced by a French policeman to drive over his (I think it was but not sure) TomTom.

BTW2, I mentioned nostalgic so forgive an old man, with a tear in his eye, digressing somewhat: attached is a picture taken in 18th August 2008 on day 10 of the Porsche Club Swiss meet tour, organised by Gary Willn, sadly no longer with us. This was the first extended PCGB trip I made, along with my wife Chris, during which we made several long-lasting friendships. Should you be wondering the location is the Technik Museum Sisheim - https://sinsheim.technik-museum.de/en/

For the .1 consider the PCCM+. I had it on my old 987.1 and it was really good - wired connection was it’s only flaw. It’s design fits seamlessly into the .1 dash design.
