Daytime running lights activation

I have a 2006 997.1 TT with PCCM+ and Sports Chrono. I had dipped beam headlights on as DRLs but the car failed the MOT because they couldn’t be turned off via the headlight switch. The independent mechanic managed to find that setting and disable it for the MOT retest.

How do I reactivate this feature please?
 
If you can’t find anything in the onboard menu I’d suggest that you contact the mechanic at your Porsche Independent to ask for guidance. Maybe he was able to make the change via the diagnostic system … PIWIS or equivalent?

If it's the same as the 987 (very likely) it's in the settings menu. Took me ages to find it on somebody else's 987. Suggest look in the driver's handbook if you are not familiar with the settings menu.
 
Have a look at pages 60/61 [Bi-Xenon/Halogen Headlights] and page 140 of your Driver’s Manual. I think that you may have the Halogen lights because it says: “When daytime driving lights are activated, dipped beam is switched on when the engine is running”.

Thanks Jeff. I definitely have Xenon lights. I will reread the manual but I haven’t found anything in there yet, nor any of the menus in the PCCM+ or dashboard.
 
I’m assuming that you like to have dipped beam as well as the DRLs? If there’s nothing in the Driver’s Manual I can only reiterate that your best bet is to ask the mechanic what he did to disable the dipped beam, possibly by delving into menus only accessible via the diagnostics. The only problem there is that you’re going to face the same issue on an annual basis.

The Driver's Manual is not the easiest thing to navigate. Here is a step by step guide to resetting daylight running lights (regardless of lamp types).
Use the on-board computer control stalk as follows:
  1. Push away to bring up the main settings menu.
  2. Push the lever down repeatedly to scroll down the items to find 'SET'.
  3. Push away again to display the additional settings sub-menu.
  4. Push down again to scroll down to 'Light'.
  5. Push the lever away to select that.
  6. You will see a check box for 'Daytime light'. If the square centre is solid white, daylight running lights are 'Off'.
  7. Push the lever away to toggle on/off. The box must have a black square in the centre to be set 'On' (see image).
  8. Once set as required, pull the lever towards a few times to fully exit the setting menus.

I don’t think that switching the DRLs on and off is the issue Ian. It seems that the OP wishes to have the dipped beams coming on too, which doesn’t seem to be an available option via the on-board display. That’s why I’m suggesting that it may only be available using diagnostics.

However as I’ve already mentioned in a previous post, the only caveat is that my 987.2 Cayman Driver’s Manual says that for cars fitted with Halogen lights, when DRLs are activated, dipped beam is switched on when the engine is running, although the OP has Bi-Xenons. I would imagine that the same applies to the 997.1 but can’t confirm. All very odd.🤔

Thank you, but I have that on already - that just operates the LED front lights, not the headlights.

Thanks again Jeff, you are correct. Apparently it's in the PCM under Individual settings. I'll try that next time I'm in the car.
 
Update - the setting was in the PCCM+ under Individual Settings. Thanks for the comments. (y)
 
A good result, and pleased to hear that it’s sorted. Note to yourself: always take time to read the manual(s)!😀
