2007 2.7Cayman 35300 miles. Occasionally and annoyingly starter doesn't engage but get the oil reservoir countdown message.
Clutch starter inhibitor switch behind steering wheel previously changed to solve "depress clutch pedal" message so not connected to that.
Is it a problem or just the computer taking over?

Usually a failure to start is due to a faulty clutch pedal microswitch [repeated failures used to be common until the switch was upgraded], but if you’re not getting the warning message you mentioned maybe it’s a bad earthing point in the starter motor system or a problem with the motor/solenoid itself?

Thanks for that Jeff. Microswitch has been changed. Only message is oil reservoir countdown. Will look at what you suggest.
 
If that turns out not to be the issue it could be a faulty ignition switch.

The oil level countdown message is odd, but with the CAN Bus system different control units are interlinked, leading to some strange issues.

My 2006 had similar symptoms, just wouldnt start, or needed multiple attempts. Seemed like the starter solenoid wasnt engaging the starter with the flywheel. Changed the starter and solenoid as one unit - been fine ever since.

Thanks Chris. It's very intermittent just now but I am leaning towards that. It goes in shortly for service and will look at that.
