Harbour Brewery

Harbour Brewery Tour

Hidden away down in the Cornish countryside, not far from Bodmin, Cornwall's third largest brewery sits over a well of 'perfect brewing water', just like that found in Pilsen, home of real lager.

Our Mark Collin made contact with Brewery Founder Eddie Lofthouse and arranged a great visit and BBQ lunch at the Harbour Brewery R&D brewhouse and tap room near Lanivet, Cornwall.

We were treated to a conducted tour of their remarkable facilities and to a modest tasting of some of not only Harbour Brewery's well-established products but also some experimental, natural beers and lagers.

Mr Lofthouse, who learnt some of his creative brewing skills in the USA, is an enthusiastic brewer, his keenness to push out the envelope of fermented worts has no bounds, natural orchard yeasts, pottery amphorae and oak casks, all having a part to play in recent trial brews.  It's true to say that not all of the beers were to everybody's taste but goes to show just what a variety of end product can be created from simple ingredients.

Twenty cars assembled in the Brewery Yard and were judged for desirability, the lucky winning owners of Spyder, Cayman and 911 were treated to a case of their chosen favourite beer.
