This month's news from your Dorset Region

It is getting busy again!

Typical of many of the smaller cars and coffee type events that can be found across the Region most weekends Alastair Duhram reports:

3 March The Oily Rag Breakfast Club
This monthly event takes place on the first Sunday in the car park of Weymouth Football Club. It provides an eclectic mix of vehicles, ranging from scooters, motorbikes, vintage, classic and modern cars, pick-up trucks and heavier transport. A fair selection of Americana was also in evidence – Galaxy, phoney police car, Kenworth tractor unit etc. R26 invariably provides attends and this meet was no exception.

The sunny day brought eight members out to display their handsome Porkers, take in the sights and enjoy a very decent breakfast whilst catching up on important matters such as their Porkers! We later heard from Kevin who had ‘nicked’ his son’s Boxster rather than getting his SC out of the garage. One mile before home it was dropping coolant on a garage forecourt! Poetic justice? A tad harsh?

Annual skittles bash
Geoff Fields reports: Having used the same venue before, R26 returned to The Coach & Horses, Wimbourne for a repeat skittles evening. Twenty-plus members gathered and were randomly split into two ‘equal’ teams. After three rounds of barracking, banter and the occasional skittle being knocked over, just two points separated the teams. Only Amanda managed to fell all nine skittles with the three balls. Amazingly no one heeded the usual underground railway announcement of ‘mind the gap’.

During the interval the venue provided an excellent buffet, which was eagerly devoured. The evening was rounded off with a game of ‘killer’, which was won by Geoff. As usual members provided some prizes for the raffle, which raised, with the addition of a couple of donations £100 for the Dorset Air Ambulance charity. A great evening, which everyone is eager to repeat.

23 March Porsche Centre Bournemouth ‘Classic Club’ event
Lastly, I cannot fail to mention this event. Whilst perhaps intended to promote the 997 ‘coming of age’, the air-cooled cars dominated it really. Nevertheless, there was a great line-up of more modern classics, and great hospitality for members. Classic Club membership only lasts two years, so pop down to Porsche Centre Bournemouth if you need to renew.

Parts from the main dealer might not be as expensive as you think… I needed a new oil pressure sender and the price was nowhere near as bad as I feared. However, the parts story of the day has to be Karl’s. He has been waiting since May last year for the last piece in the very large jigsaw that is has 997 Turbo – it was there ready for him to collect at this event! We have friendly rivalry on the monthly Zoom meetings between Karl and Barry - who is going to finish their project first? Barry was streaking ahead, this will tip the balance significantly in Karl’s favour, but will he fall for another ‘whilst you are in there’?
