Swanage Railway Trip

Tref writes; the second event of the year organised by James saw a return to the Swanage Railway. With twenty-seven Porsches parked safely at Norden there was but one intruder,  James himself opting to bring his Jaguar, his ownership of which we have mercilessly ribbed him for since he sold his Boxster. Catching the train from Nordon, we were transported to Corfe in style, pulled by a 2-6-4 Standard tank engine, complete with an observation car on the back, not for us though, so much of the journey was filled with conversation and scant regard for the passing scenery. Swanage was a delight as always and this year we were blessed with beautiful weather and amazingly clear water in the bay so there were plenty of divers preparing to explore the various wrecks in the area. Next, on to Corfe Castle, a picture-postcard village shadowed by the haunting ruins of the castle and after a light lunch we opted to walk back from Corfe Castle to Norden, catching views of our train passing through the beautiful Dorset Countryside, while some decided to sample the produce of a local hostelry in Corfe – we do hope you all caught the last train back! Thanks again James for organising another wonderful day, we look forward to your next offering, but how about bringing Susie’s Boxster next time?
BBQ and monthly meeting
Our annual BBQ took place on the summer solstice under blue skies – by no means guaranteed with the weather we have endured this year! Thirty seven members and guests enjoyed drinks on the terrace, good conversation and great food, prepared and served by the staff at the ever welcoming George Albert Hotel. I think everyone left well satisfied, so I’d like to thank the staff at the GA for another great event.
‘Old’ member, new owner.
Joint Members Lucy Warman and George Rendall have successfully lowered the average age of the Dorset Region and many years ago I too joined the PCGB with little expectation of ever actually being able to own a Porsche. I can still remember the excitement when, with the help of other members, that dream turned into a reality so I was delighted to be able assist George in finding his first Porsche and collecting it with him. Good luck with your new project George, we look forward to seeing at some of the Dorset events in the future!
Bicester Super Scramble
Just a quick note to say that if you have been considering the trip to Bicester to attend a Sunday Scramble but haven’t done so yet, you should do it, it’s a brilliant event. I met up with some old work friends at the Super Scramble in June and we all thoroughly enjoyed the eclectic mix of cars sympathetically displayed in the spacious surroundings of Bicester aerodrome, plus live track demonstrations throughout the day. And guess which car club had the biggest turn-out, by a significant margin…
