Visit to Poole Accident Repair

Never let it be said that R26 members are shallow. Yes, we enjoy the finer events in life such as WeyPoP, Sherborne, trips to France etc., but how about simpler fayre – for example, watching paint dry? Well, a Saturday morning turn-out of over twenty members to see Karl’s GT3 being painted at Porsche approved bodyshop Poole Accident Repair confirms that we’re not a high-maintenance region, but there is the possibility that the complementary bacon rolls and pastries for breakfast may have swelled the numbers. All joking aside, it was a fascinating morning where in addition to watching Luke Sutcliffe paint the repaired areas of Karl’s car, PAR boss Leon Coupland described the paint process to us and then treated to an informative stone-chip repair demonstration using super-glue, compound and a random-orbital sander, answering any questions along the way. As a bonus, among other cars, with PAR responsible for the ten 70th birthday celebration ‘liquid metal’ Boxsters, there were two in the workshop for us to study, at different stages of their restoration.
All in all, it was an excellent way to spend a Saturday morning (even if it was a bit of a ‘busman’s holiday’ for one of our members…) and our thanks go to Leon and Louise for being such welcoming hosts.

Skittles

Our annual skittles contest against Woolbridge Motor Club was a close run thing, with Woolbridge taking a narrow lead in the first round and extending the gap in the second. Despite a brave fight-back in the last round, the final score was PCGB 200, WMC 204.

Porsche Centre Bournemouth Restoracing Launch Event

Following the success of last year’s Restoracing series, the championship is being repeated in 2019 and of course, Porsche Centre Bournemouth are taking part with their beautifully prepared, hippy-liveried 986.

992 Launch Evening at Porsche Bournemouth

With an open invite from Porsche Centre Bournemouth, a contingent of R26 members attended the launch of the 8th generation 911, aka the 992, at Ferndown. With hospitality and entertainment up to the usual excellent PCB standard, everybody enjoyed a great evening but of course, the main event was the unveiling of the new car. After introductions from Dealer Principle Phil Brine, the presentation from Porsche Cars GB Product Manager Pavel Spirine was followed by the big reveal when the covers were taken off three stunning 992’s. As you’ll no doubt have reached 992-information overload by the time you read this, I won’t go into too much detail about the car, but suffice to say it’s faster, more economical, more environmentally friendly, more comfortable, more…well, you get the picture. What I will say is that there are a number of styling cues both internally and externally that further cement the links with the first generation 911 and if this continues who knows, maybe the 10th generation 911 will have an air-cooled engine (some hope – we all know it will be electric, won’t it..?)
Thanks once again to Phil, Evie and all the staff at Porsche Bournemouth for putting on another great
evening.

Karl’s GT3 (Update)

Following on from last month’s visit to Poole Accident Repair, the repairs to Karl’s GT3 have now been completed and PAR has done an excellent job, with the car now looking quite stunning. The photo here doesn’t do it justice but suffice to say that the concours competitors amongst us had better up our game. No pressure then, Karl
