West Somerset Railway & Dunster Castle

The itinerary is basically as follows:-  get parked at Bishops Lydeard by 10:00 in time to catch 10:20 steam train to Dunster. We then board a bus/coach which takes up to the castle which is owned by the National Trust.

After exploring the castle, we can have a look around the village and grab some lunch. This year, we are leaving it to individuals to do their own thing with regards to lunch as we understand there are various places in the village. Picnics can be pre-booked on line for pick-up at the castle which start from £16 for 2 people.

We then get bused back to Dunster at 16.08 catch the last train back which departs at 16:38 and arrives back at Bishops Lydeard at 17:45.

The all-in cost including the bus ride and castle admission is £28 per person for non-NT members or £21 for members, the child rate (5-17yrs) is £17.50 non-NT member or £14.00 NT member.  Family rate (2 adults, 2 children 5-17 yrs or 1 adult, 3 children): £80 (non NT members), £65 (NT members).

Accessibility: No problems with train/castle but coach has steps to negotiate. (castle is 0.9 miles/20 mins walk from Dunster Station)
