This month's news from your Cotswolds Region

February events
Sunday 4 February Breakfast Run to cars and coffee.

Wednesday 28 February Talking Porsche with AMG Petronas F1.

A quiet month ahead, as befits the shortest and possibly the coldest few weeks of the year. But as I’m writing this pre-Christmas (a ridiculous lead time), don’t discount late addition and we already have a plan.

But that AMG F1 night with one of their engineers should be great?

I want to thank all who provided their cars for our Porsche Christmas event. It’s a big ask in what seems like perpetually inclement weather. We had around 1400 people come which as it transpired, was about right. The display was the highlight.

Will we do it again next year? TBC but, if we do, I’ll be asking for cars again.

This year is shaping up quite well with lots of road trips and events already announced and on our website HERE.

More will be added as we finesse details and demand. Please take a look.

One of our trips, a four-night classics tour of North Yorkshire and the Pennines is the first of its kind in being only open to certain cars.

I’ve arbitrarily defined classics as air-cooled and transaxles and know that some may bristle at that.

Ideologically, that’s against R31’s core ethos of being open and welcoming to everyone, whatever they drive.

All cars, always welcome

I’ve capitulated because of experience and feedback on our Sunday breakfast runs and Tuesday drives.

It can be just too difficult to keep up with a modern Porsche in a 50-year-old ancestor and as I know to my cost, even more tricky to stop.

Keeping up with the youngsters

Let me know if you are interested.

The Classics trip is 9-13 August; we have a fabulous base and a wonderful itinerary to stretch our cars without breaking them.

That doesn’t mean Classics aren’t welcome on all of our trips. They absolutely are.

But which of these three won't be eligible for our Classics Tour?

Our road trip to Ireland, originally scheduled for spring, will now be in September. Once again, four nights plus travel seems to be the preferred timeframe. I’ve never been to Ireland when it hasn’t rained but that doesn’t spoil it. Not ideal for Cup 2s though.

It’s clear that track days and driver coaching are massively popular in R31. Last year, we trekked to Knockhill in Scotland because it was the only PGGB track day left with any spaces. We hope to be able to do it again this year.

But also, take a look at our Speed Championship. On either a hill climb or circuit sprint, you are up against the clock and your nerves and skills.

I’ll have a go this year. Why not join me and we can have team R31?

Two more things. There will be another Rare Beasts of the Cotswolds event in summer.

And our pro-photography workshops will return - which proved tremendously popular.
