Mills Observatory - Night Visit

Join us for an private evening tour of the Mills Observatory in Dundee, on Thursday the 19th of January for 19:30pm.

Mills Observatory is the first purpose-built public astronomical observatory in the UK. Built in 1935, the observatory is classically styled in sandstone and has a distinctive 7m dome, which houses a Victorian refracting telescope, a small planetarium, and display areas.

The evening will include a showing in the Planetarium, a guided tour of the building and use of the Main Telescope, weather permitting.

The main telescope is a 400mm (16inch) Dobsonian reflector that was acquired by the observatory in 2013. The observatory also houses a Victorian 250mm (10 inch) Cooke refractor, which was made in York in 1871. This telescope is actually 64 years older than the building and is regarded as being of the highest optical quality.

The maximum group size that can be accomodated is 25 people.
The cost for the tour is £2pp, payable to Caitlin & George (We will pay the fee in advance).

The Observatory is located at the top of Balgay Park in Dundee. Limited parking is available on site. Be prepared to "Double Park" with other members, or potentiall along the access road.
