Back in the days of yore, before COVID-19, here in Region 2 we always held a northern monthly Club night, on the first Thursday of every month. Those of you who have been members longer than 15 months, will recall that we traditionally used to have these at the Lairhillock Inn, but unfortunately that closed its doors for good after our February 2020 Club night.
Just before lockdown, we scouted about eight different possible replacement venues. We have narrowed that down to two good potential locations.
Last month, we tried out the first of those locations, the Altens Hotel in Aberdeen.
For October, our Club night will be held at the Shell Club, Woodbank.

The Club night will begin from 8:00pm on Thursday the 7th of October, although the room is open for us from 7:30pm.
If you have never been before, our Club nights are very relaxed and informal affairs, to meet new and old friends. There is no agenda, although we do give a wee update on Club activities and plans. Topics are not restricted to just cars, and most people who come along come as couples, so don't be put off thinking it will be anorak-y (but if you want to talk nuts and bolts, we will happily oblige!)
We intend to run this as a trial and see how it goes. We know that we will never be able to replicate the character of nights in the Lairhillock, but just to summarise why we have decided to try the Woodbank:
- Easily accessible from AWPR
- Large, well lit car park
- Excellent atmosphere inside
- Well priced, and very highly regarded dining facilities if you want to have a meal beforehand
- No charge for using the bar area (some places wanted to hire us a room monthly)
You don't need to book to attend the clubnight.
