Oulton Park Gold Cup

R5's major event of the year the 3-day Gold Cup Race Meeting at Oulton Park.

Region 5’s Highlight Event of the Year was hosted again by MSV at their Oulton Park Circuit over the August Bank Holiday weekend – the HSCC Gold Cup, which is a great mixture of Historic Grand Prix racing plus numerous Formula Ford, Touring Cars, Super Touring Cars, and Classic Car Racing throughout the weekend!
This year, we were privileged to have two Parade Laps of the circuit with 45 cars participating, and over the three days we had a total of 250 cars in attendance. Unlike last year, the weather was in our favour for most of the weekend – Sunday being particularly hot, with the marquee proving to be a welcome shelter, with comfortable seats and refreshing cups of coffee, to enjoy catch-up chats amongst Members and friends alike.
Again this year, we had great support from HQ – Mandy and the team took on the bulk of the workload for the administration of the tickets, and of course the provision of the main marquee – which contained the Club Shop with the Porsche merchandise, the Membership counter, and the much-welcomed coffee and drinks service.
With thanks to Mandy and Chris from the Club, and to Chris for the drinks service, over the three-day weekend, all of which made the Porsche presence both impressive and very professional.
Again, this year, we had significant representation from the Club’s “management” – our Community Director and our Motorsport Chairman came along with their cars and support; along with the substantial sponsorship from Porsche Centre Wilmslow – in providing the imposing Porsche Display Unit as a centrepiece.
A big thank you must go to that band of unpaid helpers, who turned up on the Friday to give much-appreciated assistance in setting up the pitch and the take down on the Monday afternoon.
Of course, it has been good to hear and see all the feedback and notes of appreciation from Members, especially about the Parade Lap, which makes all the hard work done in the planning and organising well worthwhile.
And last but by no means least, final thanks must be given to all the Members who turned up with their great variety of cars over the several days of the event, some of which were from the far-flung regions in the north and south, and east and west – with your support only, all our events are turned into successes. Thank you once again to one and all who participated in whatever way, both on behalf of the Porsche Club GB and on behalf of Region 5.
