Region 5’s highlight event of the year was hosted again by MSV at their Oulton Park HSCC Gold Cup held over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The event is a great mixture of Historic Grand Prix racing, plus numerous Formula Ford, Touring Cars, Super Touring Cars, and Classic Car races throughout the weekend.
This year, the Club had a parade lap consisting of 49 cars to celebrate the 70thanniversary of Porsche, and over the three days a total of 240 Porsche cars were in attendance. The Club’s marquee proved a welcome shelter from the rain on the Sunday, with seats and a warming cup of coffee allowing members to chat in relative comfort.
Again this year, R5 had great support from Club HQ. Chris and Mandy and the team took on the bulk of the workload for the administration of tickets, and of course the provision of the main marquee, which contained Club Shop, the membership counter, and the much-welcomed coffee and drinks service. So thanks to all concerned - it made the Porsche presence both impressive and very professional.
There was significant representation from the Club’s “management”, with both the Regional Director and the Register Director present. There was also substantial sponsorship from Porsche Centre Wilmslow, who provided the imposing Porsche Display Unit as a centrepiece.
A big thank you must go to that band of unpaid helpers (including some from Regions 6 and 18) who turned up on the Friday to set up the pitch, assisted with marshalling the cars over the weekend, and dismantled everything on the Monday afternoon.
It has been good to hear and see the feedback and notes of appreciation from members, which makes all the hard work planning and organizing the event worthwhile. Last, but by no means least, thanks to all the members who turned up with their great variety of cars over the several days, some of whom were from the far-flung regions in the north and south - it is with your support that events are turned into successes.
