Our annual drive to Whitby for fish and chips
At the eleventh hour we were forced to change our plans for this year’s fish and chip run. Building work on Endeavour Wharf has caused havoc with parking in Whitby itself, so the council pulled the plug on our reserved parking. Thankfully, The Stables at Crossbutts stepped in at the last minute, providing ample safe parking and lunch. Over 70 Club members met at Cherry Hill Garden Centre near Stokesley, where the staff kindly opened early to serve teas and coffees. Cars were set off in small groups for a route through the North Yorkshire National Park, via Blakey Ridge to join the A169 for the run down to Whitby. After a buffet lunch of fish and chips, some of our members took advantage of the nearby park & ride for a trip into Whitby town for a leisurely wander, while others set off for more driving through the North Yorkshire Moors, including a visit to Goathland, AKA Aidensfield in the TV programme Heartbeat. Ice cream appears to have featured whichever route our members took!
