Donington Historic Run

4 May 2024

This year we will have full PCGB participation and hope to have full use of the Melbourne Loop for Porsche only. A terrific weekend of classic racing, trade stands, car displays, it should be a standout event. The Club now is registered with MSV so for discounted tickets and entry to the Melbourne loop so you will need to book through the PCGB website HERE. We’re really grateful for the offers of help that we have received. Although it a national event it really is on R8 home turf and if any of you read Tom Fisher's report in our Facebook Group about the history of this event and its links to R8 then I think you’ll understand why it is so important to so many members of our Region. Looking forward to another amazing weekend!

Adrian has very kindly offered to organise a run out on the Saturday morning of the Donington event. Twenty cars are now booked on which is a terrific number for an inaugural event. If you would like to go please contact Adrian and book in soon. Proceeds to the air ambulance, a very worthy cause.

BREAKING NEWS

For a while now we have been toying with the idea of running a TOTEM style event in conjunction with the Donington Historic Festival. For those of you who went to the Silverstone Classic circa 2010 you may remember the Retro Run.

I am pleased to announce that this event is being planned for this year.

At this point I will stress that it is not a Breakfast Run in the normal sense, as beautifully organised by Tammie, Axel and Selina.

It will be a one off run specifically organised for those attending the Donington Historic Festival on Saturday 4 May. Entry tickets, including your car, to the event will be inspected at signing on.

A brief outline of what is being planned.

The start will be at the Porsche Centre Nottingham where a breakfast roll and refreshments will be served. Arrival time will be 8am and the first car will depart at 9.30am. There will be an approx. 45-mile route to a tea/coffee/stretch your legs stop. Then follows another approx. 45-mile route which will take you to Donington Park (DP) for around lunchtime, just in time for the afternoon proceedings.

I suggest bringing a picnic, which can be enjoyed en-route or when back at DP.

Entrants will have a designated parking area in the Porsche enclosure.

The route will be described by a TOTEM style Tulip road book and hopefully you will get a car sticker.

At the moment the entry will be restricted to 60 cars.

Entry fee will be circa £30-35 per car (two people).

Any proceeds from this will go to Air Ambulance.

The run will only be on the Saturday and an entry ticket will be required for at least that day. The weekend pass will obviously cover it.

As you know the Clubhouse are running the Porsche presence at DP this year and this event will be part of the proceedings.

It is not an exclusive Region 8 event and as such will be advertised nationally and will be open to all.

This email is going out early as a heads up to our region members prior to national advertising. Last year's TOTEM sold out within four days of the regs going out.

I have started a list of people that wish to participate, so if you are interested then just pop me an email and I will add you to it. More details will follow as things develop.

As always, if you no longer wish to receive this type of email, please let me know and I will remove you from my list.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Ade
