Fagan consolidates championship lead

Round 9 at Goodwood circuit

Porsche Club Speed Championship Goodwood Eagle Sprint 3 August 2019
Round 9

Report by Andy Fagan

Round 9 of the Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli was at the Historic Goodwood circuit. Competitors had 1 practise run and 3 timed runs consisting of 1 lap from a standing start. The weather was slightly cloudy but warm and dry. We had 13 competitors lined up and welcomed Aaron Harte on his 1st event with us, he was sharing the 3.2 Porsche Boxster with Andrew Soper.

Class P4 (Up to 212 BHP) had just 2 competitors this weekend but Stephen Jory (Porsche 944 3.0L) and Wayne Eason (Porsche Boxster 2.5L) are still fairly neck and neck for class honours in the championship. Wayne couldn’t find his usual form and had to give best to Stephen, Wayne setting a very respectable best time of 98.38 seconds on his third timed run. Stephen Jory set an exceptional time of 95.86 seconds on his second timed run to take the class win and extend his lead in the P4 class championship.

Class P3 (Up to 280 BHP) was again by far the biggest class with 9 competitors trying for the podium positions. Geraint Evans (Porsche 911 3.4L) was getting back on form and managed a time of 97.34 seconds on his second run to take the third position, Geraint reporting some wayward moments at Madgwick corner on his final run but came home safely. In 2nd place overall title challenger Justin Mather didn’t quite do enough for a needed win in his supercharged Porsche 2.7L 924S and had a best-timed run of 95.02 seconds. The winner of class P3 and fastest Porsche of the day was Graham Rose in a 3.0L Porsche 924S and a superb time of 93.63 seconds.

Class P2 (Up to 360 BHP) was also with just 2 competitors. Barrie Powell consistently reduced his times and bravely pedalled his pristine Porsche 944 Turbo to 2nd place with a best time of 116.13 seconds. Winner of P2 was Andy Fagan in a Porsche Boxster 3.2S and a time of 95.77 seconds, Andy also reporting having a 120mph spin at Fordwater on his last timed run.
