R18 August Events

The regular Supercar Sunday at Mitton Hall on the 2nd August was a little different this month.  Instead of meeting at 8.45 the start time was moved forward to 11.30 so we could enjoy a BBQ after looking at the wide selection of expo tic sports and supercars.  These ranged from an original Lancia Stratos (not a kit car) to miniature Aston Martin and Ferrari, to a small helicopter.  Mitton Hall had also provided a prize for the car most liked by the staff.

The following Sunday we attended the German Classics Car Show at Haigh Hall.  PCGB Numbers were a little down this year as some members were attending Lytham Proms to see Elaine Paige that evening.  Numbers overall were up on previous years, both by entrants as well as spectators.  As usual there was an interesting selection of German Classics on show from a Messerschmitt Bubble Car to a fabulous Mercedes Convertible and a Pagoda.  On the Porsche front, as well as PCGB and TIPEC displays there was a small display from Horwich Porsche Club who had an immaculate 356 which won a prize.

Around 48 R18 members attended the National Event at Althorp.  Again Sue & Mac worked extremely hard on getting the various displays set up and many other R18 members also volunteered for car park and other duties.  A full report on the event can be found elsewhere.

Our August monthly meeting is always a joint event with Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club for their Car Park Concours at Heaves Hotel at Levens. Unfortunately on the day there was torrential rain throughout the region.  This depleted the number of entrants generally, but still didn’t deter 11 Porsches from bot Lancashire, Cumbria and even the North East.  This was a good number as the total number of cars was only about 25-30. There are a number of classes to enter for each car, apart from the Best Jaguar and Best Porsche, and again PCGB members picked up prizes for Best Post 92 Sports Car – Mike Trotter – Boxster S, and believe it or not at last Jeremey Heney picked up a Concours Prize or two, not only for Best Sport/Gt but Best Porsche.

The following Sunday was the usual Breakfast meeting with Preston Sports & Supercar Club at the Phantom Winger.  This is a simple event where we all meet for a chat over a bacon barm and coffee form 9.00 and leave at about 12.30, unless you stay for lunch.  Each month there is always a good selection of different cars including Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus and Noble.  There had been some confusion about whether the event had been cancelled, as there had been another classic car event in Blackpool the previous day, which may have resulted in numbers being slightly down.
