In welcoming in 2021 we also herald the beginning of a year long celebration of the 60th anniversary of our Club. A Club that can trace its heritage back to a meeting held in Chateau Impney in Droitwich in 1961. We salute those forward-thinking enthusiasts who came together with a vision. A vision of creating a community that would build friendships and that would come together to enjoy driving a car that today has become the legend we call Porsche.
I am confident that our vision today very much reflects that first meeting from all those years ago - to be the Club that sits at the heart of Porsche ownership and enjoyment in the UK. We owe much of the success that we enjoy today to our members past and present, and to the dedicated staff of our Clubhouse team. Thank you.
From our 22,000 strong membership, volunteers step forward to act as Regional Organisers, Register Secretaries, and to stand for election to serve as Board Members. Countless more volunteer for committee roles, or simply pitch in and help out at events.
Every volunteer, irrespective of role, along with the many members who make up a silent majority, coupled with the ongoing support from our many commercial partners, help to keep PCGB the largest car club for Porsche enthusiasts in the UK and Europe.
In recent months, like many organisations, we have all had adjust to the unpredictable effects of Covid 19, which has stopped many of our normal events and restricted opportunities to meet up. By harnessing everyone’s enthusiasm, the spirit of the Club has continued, albeit that much of it has been online.
Together we can now begin to look forward to a summer of special celebrations.
Though we may face further challenges in the coming months, as Chair, speaking on behalf of the entire Board, I give you my firm commitment that we will meet these challenges with renewed vigour and in a spirit of friendship, understanding and respect.
Our Clubhouse Team, volunteers and partners are striving to finalise a programme of 60th anniversary celebrations that is aimed at touching every one of our members in all four nations of the UK. We plan to start our 60th celebrations in the Spring of 2021 when we believe that we will be able to celebrate together more freely.
During our most recent RO/RS Zoom meeting the Clubhouse team took the opportunity to share our outline plans. Over the coming weeks, working with local Regions and Registers, the team will continue to roll out the details of great events as soon as venues, are able to commit to the plans we already have with them.
