Porsche celebrates its 70th in style at Le Sarthe.

Porsche celebrates 70 years of sports car production in 2018, and one of the highlights of this anniversary year will be the Le Man Classic. To mark its auspicious manufacturing milestone, a special single-make race will be held at Le Sarthe exclusively for historic racing Porsches.

Seventy cars will take part in the 55-minute race, held on the Saturday, just before the start of the full Classic, with two qualifying sessions taking place the day before. Entrants will range from early Fifties 356s up to a 2.8-litre RSR from 1973, with everything in between from series cars to homologation specials and even selected prototypes.

Porsche France has organized the event in collaboration with local historic experts Peter Auto. But there is also strong British support from the likes of Tuthill Porsche and newly formed Sports Purpose, who are heavily involved in Peter Auto’s new 2.0-litre Cup, a dedicated race series for original SWB 911s.

These 2.0-litre cars will form part of the grid at Le Mans, before meeting again at three more European venues over the summer. More of that in the coming weeks.

The 9th Le Mans Classic will be held from 6-8 July and you can find out more and buy tickets here.
