Treasure from Lake Lucerne

A Porsche 356 has been recovered from Lake Lucerne

A Porsche 356, thought to be a 1954 coupé, has been recovered from the fourth-largest lake in Switzerland. The car resting on the lake bed some eight metres below the surface was lifted onto the Kon-Tiki salvage boat using specialist underwater salvage equipment.

The rescue took place during late October, but the car had been discovered earlier this year by members of a local sub-aqua diving school. They discovered the car around 10 metres from the shore, but with no perimeter road around that particular section of Lake Lucerne it is unclear how the 356 ended up there.

The engine, gearbox, interior and licence plates are all missing and, as the pictures show, the car is unsurprisingly in poor condition. But the Porsche 356 Club of Switzerland is aware of the discovery and the President of the organisation, Frank Baumann, joined other members to assist with the salvage operation.
