Radio staying on

been trying to figure out why the car is ending up with completely flat battery in storage, despite being on a proper trickle charger and having a new battery last year. Nothing obviously left on. Noticed yesterday however that the radio was still playing in the car despite it having been parked and locked for several hours. Looks like this is probably the cause - anyone any ideas what’s failed so this can happen - it always used to go off with the ignition.

It must be a fault with the ignition switch if your wiring hasn't been changed in any way. There are usually 2 live connections to the radio. One is permanently live which keeps the stored preferences and stations in memory. The other is a switched 12v and this comes from the ignition switch.
So pull the radio and check that the 12v switched circuit is reacting to the ignition circuit. Another circuit that is usually connected to the switched 12v is the cigarette lighter so that maybe a quicker method to check the ignition circuit functionality. If the ignition switch is OK then it's a problem with the radio.

thanks. wiring is standard. can't now replicate problem so i am thinking you are right and its likely an intermittent fault on ignition switch. will keep an eye on it.
