356B rear badge fastening

So I had the badges on my 356 chromed, actually about 8 years ago now (gulp!) and I finally got around to re-attaching them this weekend

The '60' badge (it's a 356B T60 I believe) I managed to seal in place with push-on star lock fasteners by getting my hand in between the rear body shell, and the engine bay by lying under the car and sticking them to my finger while holding the badge on the front of the car with my other arm - and yes it was just as difficult as it sounds!

Does anyone know how to achieve the same with the 'porsche' badge that goes in the centre of the back?

I removed the boot latch in-case that had an access panel underneath it (it doesn't) but can't see any easy way to get to these to secure with similar type push-on star lock fasteners

All thoughts much appreciated and here's a photo!

Hi Alex, Sorry cannot help much, the badges were fitted to the shell at the bodyshop before the engine and anyting else was installed. The access to the rear panel from beneath the car would have been easier at that time.

I thought that the holes in the bodyshell had plastic "top hat" plugs fitted into them and the badge pins at the rear of the badge were just pushed into the top hat plugs.I do know that the earlier car Porsche badge has a 5 pin fitting and the later badge has only a 2 pin fitting and is much more liable to be lifted at each end during washing/polishing.

Perhaps some one else can shed some more light on the method of fitting.
See you at Hedingham on the 4th May?

The Porsche badge has a 2 pin fitting on it, one at almost either end, and the pins are actually slightly 'serrated' so that I guess they then bind on to the body work when mounted. I've not seen any plastic mounting pins on mine when I took them off, but somewhere more knowledgeable that us both might pop along soon and tell us!

Is there anything planned for the 356s that attend as well as the 250 that are part of the 356 International?

It's a drive from me in central London to Hedingham for one day, and it were for that kind of special thing it might enhance my chances of bringing the 356 on a 'Grand Tour' :)

Thanks again

The event was limited to 125 Porsche 356 and early Porsche sports cars only.

Yes - my mistake and I was only just sent the brochure and had in my head 250 for some reason - 125 is correct

I was lucky enough to be offered a last minute space, but couldn't attend for the whole time unluckily so hopefully someone else gets to go!

That's a real pity Alexander - it looks like it will be a very well organised event.

You sure need little fingers. I wanted a slightly different script on the rear end of mine so I got a T5 script but it came in gold which I got stripped off then chromed. I recall there were five small spigots on the rear but I didn't want to fix the script by the top hat method, I wanted it flush, so I very carefully tapped them, I think it was 2.5 or 3.0 mil thread. Drilled the bodywork after measuring it about 20 times, gulp, and fixed the script on with stainless nuts. It was a right old fiddle especially as it went above a frenched licence plate aperture, but it was worth it and I got the result I was after.
