Alloy wheel refurbishment ????

I used them many years ago for my Clio Williams wheels and a friend had his 997 wheels refurbed last year - they did an excellent job both times.

Note that they will only do a full wheel refurb; not just an outer rim tidy-up. Probably you're looking at around £90-£100 per wheel.

ive used a company in Huntingdon by the name of ‘Wheel Genie’ You have to book, and leave your car there for the day ie 08:30 till 5pm. I had all four wheels, stripped, and powder coated at a cost of £395 excellent finnish and it meant just 1 day.

Try Exel wheels, had mine done a few years ago and they came back better than the original finish. They advertise in the Porsche Post and offer an at home service with loan wheels being fitted.

I know it's a fair distance away but Lepsons down in Surrey are fantastic. I did lots of research before I had my wheels refurbed and they generally came out tops on customer satisfaction. They're probably slightly more expensive than some of the 'backstreet' alloy refurbishers but the customer service and quality was amazing. I can't recommend them enough.

Cheers guys plenty of food for thought, I like the idea of Excel, better for me as time is at a minimum. I will ring them in the new year after Kev Waterhouse has done a bit of work for me.
 
Just got mine back from Pristine Wheels in Woburn Sands. Fantastic job, must make sure I don't kerb them again. Definitely recommend.
 
Change of mind, given after attendance at Bicester Scramble today, to discover my locking wheel nuts were loose, and worse still all of the wheel nuts of the drivers side rear wheel, I would seriously question the competence of the people who re-attached the wheels to the car at Pristine Wheels. Just glad it was pointed out, and able to make it home safely. all wheel nuts now tight.
 
That's disappointing Neil but I think that the problem resides with the tyre fitting unit they use across the road (Fred the Tread?).

I'd definitely let Pristine Wheels know about it.

Thanks, I will be calling them tomorrow, as I don't want anyone else to suffer the same thing. I feel lucky nothing more serious has happened.

My previous cars were an Audi TT and an Audi TTS Special Edition.

I was always kerbing the rims and spent hundreds of pounds on refurbs.

After the job was done the refurb guy would always give the same spiel about he couldn't guarantee he had tightened up the wheel nuts enough. He would always advise me to get them checked because they'd had a customer whose wheel had fallen off in transit!

I never got round to having them checked and never had a problem.

Now I have adjustable wing mirrors on my Porsche and my run-around. In the Porsche, I simply avoid all kerbs!

Now in retrospect, I tend think that the whole refurb business is a scam. The guy, who did mine, resprayed the wheels with paint that seemed to flake off again as soon as I grazed another kerb. I called him up and he took another few hundred for the next refurb!

My advice would be to get adjustable wing mirrors or just avoid kerbs like the plague!







 

Platinum Alloys in Swindon (not that far) and have done a fab job on mine - have their own lathes and do diamond polished finishes if thats what you need - some others don't do that.
