Poor pop off valve? Best place to buy?

Hi all

My first post as a newbie 911 owner and PCGB member....

Before doing any servicing myself - I noticed my car has no pop off valve - so wanted to make it THE priority. Car is a 1981 3.0 SC with K jetronic. However, read that fitting one runs it's own risks - especially if not glued in properly?!

On receiving pop off from The Porscheshop, I was unimpressed. Simply came in plastic bag with nothing else - no template as some mention receiving via pelican parts (I'm UK). Also the O-ring barely protrudes to meet the closed flap and when inverting it and filling with water, it leaked!

I assume this would be disastrous and permit unmetered air passed and a lean mixture?!

Only after buying did I notice poor reviews for porscheshop on trustpilot and Google etc.

Any suggestions in sourcing a decent valve in the UK or anyone similar experience?

Best regards
Neil

When I fitted mine I got it from Type 911, from memory, it was about 15 years ago it came with instructions, template and was a good fit etc. Never had any problems with it but you will need to get a hole cutter of the correct size and maybe a 90 Deg universal joint for the drill as space is limited, I hired one for a couple of hours! Never had any problems with one at all and of benefit as my old air box blew up (it had already been repaired at least once buy a previous owner) My new air box cost me about £300 from an OPC!

I have never seen a pop off valve not come with a template, as you say you've done the search on that place now so I will say no more!

When I fitted one last month to my SC I used a 90 degree chuck adapter, worked a treat, you will need a 50mm hole saw and then also need to file the hole slightly.

I used silicon gasket to install, smear some grease on the o ring too.

Feck! I have just seen what you were charged for that valve, we do them for £24, send it back!

Hi.

Thanks for the replies and advice.

Think I will fit a pop-off, just not the one sent by Porscheshop!

I'm also sending back the door check straps to them - assembly has missed parts on one of them!

Hopefully I manage a lucky escape and dropped e-mails to them issuing notice of a charge back on my credit card if they don't answer the phone!

I'm not happy their advert's carried in the owners mag - very misleading

Best regards,
Neil
