Centre Gravity

I though I'd share my experience with Chris Franklin & crew at Centre of Gravtity and the marvelous job they did.
I put my car to CentreGravity (GC) for a complete suspension review as I wasn’t happy with the handling and couldn't get rid of a wheel wobble at 70-8 MPH)
Well Chris and crew are truly exceptional experts the field of handling, their knowledge and ability to explain why and what they found in simple terms to us mere morals is great.
So the key issues that were found are:
  • Rear Left torsion bar that needs re-indexing as set as it maximum to level the cars ride height
  • Worn front torsion bar rubbers that need replacing
  • Front height/suspension setting set to stiff allowing no movement
  • Corner weights that should be between 0-20 grams tolerance but were 145!
  • Stiff Steering

Now the steering was another story on its own.
Initially they noticed some noise/wear in the rack, but once the car was in the air on the ramp closer inspection found that the steering was extremely stiff particular at each end of its movement, so further investigation was required.
Once the rack was off they found that it needed 280 lbs of force to move where normally they would have expected something like 80 lbs - time for a refurb then!
So the rack went off to Fennlane Sport and a day or so later it returned all shiny and new.
Various bits within the rack were found to be worn in particular the Stop Bush which I now have as a souvenir. As our racks doesn’t have a greasing nipple the inner’s and particularly the bar become as dry as a bone and can found some surface rust showing in several place as mine did.
My steering is now very light compared to where it was, the feel and feedback is much more precise gives you loads more confident when attacking a corner.
Sorry to add to your "To Do" list but a good lubrication once and a while, or a refurb if required is definitely worth it.

Picked the car up from CG a few weeks ago, what a wonderful transformation, loved the feel and feedback through the steering, it feels so much more linear and smooth when pressing on and really enjoyed the drive home.
The car feels really planted particularly round corners, it feels and gives you so much more confidence to attack corners at speeds you wouldn't think possible.
Chris & Pete are truly wizard of the art of handling

Beaky could you share a link to their web site? Googling their name obviously brings up thousands of other references!

Beaky I want to thank for for your original post and revealing CofG; I spent the day there yesterday. Possibly the most important and best value expenditure on the car to date.

Being my 1st 911 I wasn't sure if my handling was right or wrong, there was a bit of pulling to the right and some waywardness when bumpy, it was OK but I never felt that comfortable on certain roads. Chris's test drive over all sorts of surfaces (flat, concave, bumpy, cobbled) at different speeds, acceleration and braking forces, revealed it's behaviors under different loads and all along Chris explained what it should do and why, and what my car does, and the probable reasons why. By the time we were back he had a pretty good mental map of what's up.

Once back and on the dialysis machine it revealed two front wheels toeing left, rears both toeing in, rhs more than the left, cross axle weight difference of 140kg (should be sub 20kg), incorrect ride heights...a mess really which was great, as I knew there were loads of improvements coming.

Chris was so informative, eager to explain even to a layman with zero tech expertise. So knowledgeable in all areas of the car, I learnt more about my car in a day than in the few previous years of ownership! Whilst under the car he also noticed a couple of brackets/ties missing which when sorted out, and some very loose adjustment bolts! Almost did a health check as he worked front to back underneath. Nothing needed urgent attention thankfully.

It was a long day of adjustments but his perseverance paid of, with the cross axle weigh of 9kg, more travel in the nose (it on it's bump stops before), correct stance angle, heights, camber etc etc. Driving back this morning I had a chance to push through some B road bends & the fast roundabouts on the A5 were great fun. It now feels fluid and smooth and has given me the confidence push harder than I have wanted to before. It feels a different car. Never realised there would be so much grip & balanced, I can't wait to go back out in it again!

Wholeheartedly recommended, Get down there!

Very confusing that the web site is centregravity but the company name is Center Gravity.... (No 'of')

Chris transformed my 996 Turbo. His attention to detail is what really impressed me.

What’s confusing about that??

They are called Centre Gravity - not Centre of Gravity as many people seem to get wrong [8|]

Great company and passion for what they do.
