PCGB region 13 French trip - May 2019 (was September 2018)

Here in his own words is an outline of the trip to France that Ian Crosskell is organising for region 13 in September 2018:

[FONT=arial"]"Okay, here is a draft outline of a trip to France in September 2018. The intent is to see a bit of pre-revolutionary France, with some cars thrown in for good measure.
[FONT=arial"]So, I propose meeting up at a hotel in Bayeux, on Sunday 2^nd September. The journey there can be by ferry to Le Havre, Caen or Cherbourg – your choice – or on the regular route to Calais by ferry or tunnel then a trip down the west coast of France.
[FONT=arial"]If you haven’t seen the Bayeux tapestry, you should! I suggest if you haven’t, you take the chance to see it before meeting up in the hotel for an evening meal and conviviality.

[FONT=arial"]Next day, I propose a drive westwards via Mont Saint Michel to Saint Malo (or Dinard) to a hotel for another meal and more conviviality. Mont Saint Michel is a chance to stretch legs and explore an old monastic dwelling, or just sit and have crepes if you prefer.
[FONT=arial"]Don’t walk out to the sea unless you can run at the speed of galloping horses though – the tide comes in that fast!

[FONT=arial"]The third day, Tuesday, we can drive along the emerald coast towards Brest, then take the N165 to just past Lorient, then the N24 towards Rennes and another hotel for two nights. There are a multitude of old forts and chateaux to see on the way round if a stop and leg stretch or just a snack are required.

[FONT=arial"]As previously, I suggest cars travel separately at the owner’s preferred pace, seeing what they want to see and meeting up at the hotel for the evening. I will make some suggestions for stops as usual as the trip develops.

[FONT=arial"]The fourth day is a trip to Loheac and a privately owned automobile museum. Before there are any complaints about a day just gawping at cars, the museum is much more than that. There are also wonderful dioramas of motoring related scenes, some life sized models of motoring in past ages and a large gallery devoted to formula 1 cars and drivers.
[FONT=arial"]There is also a track associated with the museum, but I believe that charges €100 per session. When I have an idea about numbers, I will write to enquire if we can get a reduced rate group session for the track. It could be a chance to let the cars build up some steam away from the public roads – French police are very speed conscious, doubtless even more so if they see a bunch of UK registered Porsches – money, money, money!

[FONT=arial"]After that, back to sedate driving and to a hotel near Vitre. This is a short distance, but I will develop a route to take later.

[FONT=arial"]The last day, Friday 7^th September will be on to Caen and a hotel there, before we split up for each to take their preferred route back to them UK, or to travel further in France if holidays (or costs for the retired) allow.

[FONT=arial"]As there are some choice hotels I have in mind at around £120 per night and would like to get booked, please let me know if you are keen to join the trip ASAP, certainly no later than Christmas Eve"

Revised plan for May 2019

So, I propose meeting up at a hotel in Bayeux, on Tuesday 21^st May, which should be after Porsches on the Prom if it is about the same time as in 2018 ie. on 19th. The journey there can be by ferry to Le Havre, Caen or Cherbourg – your choice – or on the regular route to Calais by ferry or tunnel then a trip down the west coast of France.

As there are some choice hotels I have in mind at around £120 per night for a double room and would like to get booked, please let me know if you want to join the trip ASAP, preferably no later than Christmas Eve (I am with friends near St Malo for New Year, so might explore a bit further).

I do not expect a firm commitment at this early stage but I am looking for a likely final number to start arrangements so just say if you are available and keen to join in."
